Bears baffled with extra-inning call

With the bases loaded and the game tied 5-5 in the bottom of the eight inning, Conway [Christian]’s pitcher walked in the winning run for the Bears. However, Carvers Bay’s batter stopped a quarter of the way up the first base line to return to home plate and celebrate with his team.
“There was a lot of congestion with my team on the field,” Fox said. “You gotta understand, it was like a playoff atmosphere. The place was packed.”
A fan in the crowd, who Fox said is an umpire with the Coastal Umpires Association, shouted for the Conway pitcher to throw the ball to first base. He did and the Carvers Bay batter was called out, the run voided and the game pushed into the second extra inning.
