Okay, for all the Gaffney folks....here is a sincere question.

If Jones leaves, who takes over? Is there a "name on the street" that most people are bringing up? Will one of the other coaches promote up? If it is an outsider....who and where would they come from? Who would be good enough, and willing to leave their current team to take over a program that appears to be carrying a lot of baggage right now?

We saw what happened at Spartanburg with Brown, but Wallace came to NW from 2A/1A background.

If memory serves me right, Strickland came from a 3A/2A background and did well at Gaffney. He has totally turned around the 2A Newberry program.

So, again, ASSUMING Jones leaves, who would Gaffney want and who would want to come to Gaffney?

Batesburg-Leesville, 2A, near Lexington and the Indian fans (well the REAL fans) wish he had never left...

I was pretty sure of that, but didn't take the time to properly document my opinion. I don't like to put things "out there" that I cannot back up! Thanks for the follow up!

My daughter taught at Newberry for a couple of years and found NOBODY that had a bad word to say about Strickland!

I wish Strickland would come back but that will probably never happen thanks to our superintendent and our school board. I don't know who the front runner is I haven't heard. There are talks that Bobby Carroll from York is interested but that's about it there is a joke going around that Bentley is coming to Gaffney but I really LMAO when that talk starts

Bobby Carroll and Greg Lawson (Former Gaffney OC) are the names that I am hearing. The Gaffney Ledger‎ reported yesterday that Gaffney had the lowest gate totals for home games in two decades. For two home games they didn't even make enough money to pay the officials and ticket takers and still clear any money for the athletic budget. The paper talked to someone from the school who blamed it on the weather but anyone who knows anything about football knows that that wasn't the reason.

A friend of mine who lives down in the Lexington area emailed me the day he heard Strickland was coming to Gaffney and said they had the best coach in the midlands and said people were happy for his opportunity, but were about in tears because he was leaving...

If we beat Byrnes the coaches would probably get lifetime contract extensions. We did play them tough the first time and left some points out on the field. I'm sure Byrnes felt the same way so it should be interesting if nothing else. I guess in some ways it is fate that these two teams are playing in the first round.

Nah, it's not fate, I really hate it, you know they are going to relish in beating a down Gaffney team, plus it's another for them in the balance of head to head totals between the teams. The only thing I'm hoping for is Tyshawn coming in being a QB that they aren't prepared for and pulling a Shaq on their defense (them not being able to keep up with him) ... defense wise, they are not going to try to run the ball on our front, they are going to Patriot'ize all frikkin night, dinks and dunks until they see the homerun ball, then it's over... sux rox.
