Being able to stop the run...............

Post by trojangrad78 »

While the spread offense can open up the game, you still have to be able to run the ball. Also, most teams still rely on their rushing attack primarily and their passing attack as secondary.....exceptions being Northwestern/Spartanburg/Byrnes/Nation Ford.

Northwestern has done a good job of stopping the run this year. Based on the local paper and maxpreps, this is what I dug up for NW's rushing defense. I won't swear to this being 100% accurate, but it was the best I could dig up.

School Rushes Yards Avg
Byrnes 17 47 2.8
Woodside 65 234 3.6
Irmo 27 64 2.4
Greenwood 33 64 1.9
South Pointe 29 36 1.2
Fort Mill 41 70 1.7
York 28 64 2.3
Clover 19 47 2.5
Nation Ford 17 11 0.6
Rock Hill 24 55 2.3
Gaffney 34 129 3.8
Laurens 37 58 1.6

Total 371 879 2.4

Northwestern is giving up 70 yards a game, 2.1 per rush, and 6 rushing TDs this year. Last week Laurens had a 1200 yard guy, a 900 yard guy, and had 7 rushing yards the first half. Westwood has a guy who ran for 467 yards against Blythewood, and the biggest OL since Rock Hill averaged 319 across the front some years ago.

I can give you some more accurate numbers, if you want.
395 attempts
1360 plus yards
516 minus yards
844 net rushing yards allowed
