What Dave is saying but not saying....The people of the East side of town decided that wanted something like the "U"....that would be Dorman HIgh School. The old Dorman high School(for you out of towners) used to sit on an area that is now home to Walmart/Home Depot and many other major stores and restaurants. Needless to say it was a blank check written to district 6 many years ago but you get the picture. District 7 voters agreed to a bond referendum that most outsiders would agree was a terrible way to finance the new school. Most of the people that voted for that bond either (A) had no idea what they really were voting on or (B) probably don't own property and wouldn't be paying the taxes. They needed something over there but they didn't need the burden of taxing a least 2 generations. It was a known bad deal but they sold it to the masses.

Spartan High went the wrong way with Freddie Brown. He ran off a great deal of kids(and good athletes) into the lacrosse game and many of those kids who had younger siblings never came back to football. Even now with Coach Miller who is a great guy and coach........

Beating Spartanburg these days is absolutely meaningless.......Outside of the Feaster years, Spartanburg has had ONE winning season since 2001 and has an overall losing record.

Even with the Feaster years, Spartanburg 107 and 96 since 2001......The true definition of mediocrity.

Bonds have always been used to finance long term public contruction projects. That wasn't the issue here. Seems like the overall project which was more than just the school was $185 million. While clearly the new school was needed(no one is arguing that point); they are betting the tax base holds VERY firm on the tax revenue. There were many public watchdog groups pointing out that this project was not in the best interest of the taxpayers of the area. Time will tell. OK back to football......

Back to football. Really not sure what the issue is at Spartanburg in football. Had a bad year last year which can happen. Figured they might be a bit young, injury plagued, or just one of those years where the chemistry is awful and everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Now Nations Ford is a decent team, bit they would struggle to make the playoffs most years in Region 2. And has to be disappointing to the Viking faithful after the arrival of supposed offensive guru McManus. Just goes to prove that few in the game are the geniuses, or the idiots, that folks make them out to be. It's usually about talent on hand. Pretty much anybody that can get a team in formation was going to look good at SP with that wealth of talent. Its rarely the system. It's the horses in the system. Maybe the Vikings just don't have the horses right now.

They dropped a game to Nation Ford last week.
They will not be favored to win against Byrnes, Gaffney, or Dorman. So, to have a winning season they would need to win every remaining game on the schedule except for those three. Doubtful.
