Always a big game due to the long standing rivalry. Many on both side are from the same family, attend church together, or have other connections.

New game, but with a lot of history. Before Byrnes had it's major growth, these two played on a regular basis and have even been region rivals.

9/4/2020 Byrnes Hough, NC
Out of state game from last year's home and home contract. North Carolina does re-alignment next year so when you do a contract with a NC team, it can be messy. I'd rather see Summerville, Carolina Forrest, or Wando for a trip to the beach.

A new team added to the schedule. We've met a few times in the past, but not often.

Nothing to see here folks, move along.... For the past 20 years we have seen some great games from these two. Bitter rivalry but even though many will not admit it, much respect for each other as well. When realignment moves them to different regions, a non-region contract is filled out immediately.

10/2/2020 Byrnes Spartanburg
This should be an interesting week. Vikings will be still learning their new coach and system and while the memories of the past few years with Coach Miller coming back to play at Nixon Field and playing the Rebels on a neutral field at Wofford have been interesting; those days are behind us now. I expect the Vikings will make some improvements, I don't expect them to happen this quickly.

For several years, a Region Championship was usually on the line when these two meet. Twice, a State Championship was on the line. Each had a dream of a 15-0 season end at the hands of the other in those meetings at Columbia. I see no reason to believe it will be any different this season.

We've played probably 10 times since 2000, mostly in the playoffs, but a few times in the regular season. While there is not a "rivalry" there seems to be no love either.

Wade Hampton is back as a region foe. Other than Region match ups, the two haven't met hardly at all. It's been a while since the General's have relevent.

Week 0) @Rabun County 8/21/20
Exciting way to start the season. First out of state game for the Lions in 25 years and it shouldn’t be a disappointing game as the Rabun County team boasts a 5 star Junior QB and back to back perfect regular seasons.

Week 1) @Easley 8/28/20
The annual week 1 rivalry matchup between the Lions and Green Wave. Not sure what to expect with the new coaches at Easley for the second straight season.

Week 2) @Airport 9/4/20
First time ever playing this team. Coach Fruster has an obsession with scheduling Columbia area schools for some reason. I have hopes that this could be a good game as the Airport squad had a playoff run into the third round last year, but I don’t know about any roster changes.

Week 3) Laurens 9/11/20
First time in nearly 30 years that these two squads have faced off. I know they’re coming off a region championship but I do not know how many starters they’re returning. I do have a strong feeling however that it will be a very exciting game.

Week 4) Walhalla 9/18/20
Ol’ Walhalla found their way back onto the schedule because they believe they have a rivalry with the Lions. In reality they are disliked because of their shady recruitment of nearby schools players. This should be a big Lions win barring any unforeseen injuries to the team.

Week 5) Emerald 9/25/20
The Vikings have made their way back on the schedule for the first time since 2015. I vividly remember how close and great the games between these two teams were when they were in the same region. With the new coach Emerald has I’m not sure what to expect against them but i hope it’ll be a fun matchup like the times before.

Week 6) @Seneca 10/2/20
For the 70th time the Daniel-Seneca game will be played. After playing in the 2018 blowout, and watching the 2019 blowout, 2020 I think will be the year this game will be back to being a competitive matchup. Seneca has some decent varsity experience on both sides of the ball. What makes this game more exciting as a fan and alum is it will be a region matchup for the first time since the 2015 season.

Week 7) @Pendleton 10/9/20
It has been some time since Daniel has squared off with Pendleton. Despite the close proximity these schools don’t have a bitter rivalry like some might expect. Maybe being in the region for the first time, I believe, ever might create new hatred between the schools. Since West-Oak won their appeal to be out of the region Pendleton is definitely the odd team out and I feel this will be a blowout game.

Week 8) Wren 10/16/20
This game will be fun to watch. Wren is coming off their 4A State title and the only team in the state that they lost to were the Lions and it was on controversial last second TD. Knowing how Wren normally does things they’re going to find a random kid to transfer in to play QB. The Lions defense does a great job getting into the backfield against pass happy teams so this is a game I can’t wait to see.

Week 9) BYE 10/23/20

Week 10) BHP 10/30/20
The region usually always is decided between these two teams. These two teams have played each other every year since 1976 and one thing to expect from this game is for it to stay close all the way down to the wire. It’s a bitter rivalry and last year after the Lions won the region championship on the Bears field there was an altercation between both teams coaches and players so no love will be lost heading into this years matchup.
