baseball fields, old school stadiums, and real thrills
AS I ENTERED THE FOX FIELD, THE BASEBALL FIELD IS BEHIND THE GOAL POST AND SO THEY HAVE TO TAKE THE GOAL POST AND FENCE DOWN TO PLAY BASEBALL, OLD RED COLORS WITH RUSTY OLD STANDS THAT HAVE STOOD THE TESTS OF TIME. AT THE 5 YARD LINE THEY HAVE A HIRED DJ PLAYING DISCO FEVER AT A TABLE FOR JOCK JAMS, THE FIELD LOOKS LIKE A WINTER FIELD WITH NO GREENS, JUST DEAD GRASS. YES, MASKS ARE EVER WHERE WITH SCHOOL COLORS OF RED AND GOLD ABOUND, THE OLD FIRE TRUCKS ARE PARKING, LIKE 1960 ONES. THE TEAMS ARE WARMING UP ON THE FIELD AND WE GO TO THE TOP OF THE HOME FIELD WHICH IS A VISITOR SIDE TOP IN 5AAAAA. THE GAME STARTED AND IT WAS A BACK AND FORTH SCORING FEST TILL WITH ONE MINUTE LEFT AND THE ANDREWS YELLOW JACKETS FULLBACK, EVERY BIT OF 250LBS, RUNNING TOWARDS THE GOAL LINE TO SURELY WIN THE GAME AT THE END FOR ANDREWS, A FOX DEFENDER HITS HIM AND IN SLOW MO THE BALL FALLS AND ROLLS OUT OF THE END ZONE FOR A TOUCH BACK FOR THE FOXES. GAME OVER, NO NEW TURF OR NEW STADIUM WITH GLITTERING LIGHTS AND JOCK JAMS BLASTING OUT OF THE NEW COMPUTER CONTROL ROOM. JUST A COLD DJ SITTING THERE, RED PAINT PEELING AND ME HEADING BACK TO THE REAL WORLD OF 2020. A GAME WITH NO FRILLS BUT PLENTY OF THRILLS IN A COUNTY TOWN IN THE SOUTH. I LEAVE WITH MANY THOUGHTS OF THE WAY IT USED BE. FROM BUFART WITH NEW TURF TO THE REAL WORLD OF SMALL TOWN FOOTBALL WHERE EVEN THE FIRE TRUCKS LOOK LIKE THEY ARE LOST IN THE 60'S. AS ALWAYS ITS NEVER ABOUT THE DESTINATION BUT THE JOURNEY. THE END OF FOOTBALL FOR ME IN 2020, AT THE FIELD OF THE MARION SWAMP FOXES. ONLY 272 DAYS BEFORE I RETURN FOR 57 YEARS

Slick I think you missed your calling man. You could’ve been the Grantland Rice of South Carolina high school football. Well done!

I was wanting to go to marion but decided to buy the tickets too late and it was sold out. Those small town games are something else. The pride the town has in their team. I had the pleasure of going to Abbeville last year and im going to make it a habit to attend small town games Just for the pageantry of it all.

Great post Slick!!!! I am like you. I love to visit the different football stadiums. Even though I go to every Beaufort Football Game, when there is an open week for My Eagles or if they are out of the playoffs, I try and attend another game. MY Goal is to visit every football stadium in the state before I leave this Earth. I have visited a lot of them in My Life so far but still have plenty to see. Shoot when we go on Vacation I always try and visit the stadium in that town. We went to Helen/Cleveland Georgia a few weeks ago and I wanted to see the High School Football Stadium there. LOL. We saw the High School Stadium there at White County High School. I just love High School Football!!!! I hope to be able to attend many more games in My Lifetime.CITYSLICKER wrote: ↑Sat Nov 28, 2020 11:55 am2020-MARION FOX FIELD.jpgAS I ENTERED THE FOX FIELD, THE BASEBALL FIELD IS BEHIND THE GOAL POST AND SO THEY HAVE TO TAKE THE GOAL POST AND FENCE DOWN TO PLAY BASEBALL, OLD RED COLORS WITH RUSTY OLD STANDS THAT HAVE STOOD THE TESTS OF TIME.
