Abbeville has talent, runs a great system and has an amazing culture.
But a good 5A team would beat em pretty good and here’s why:
Abbeville’s best 3-5 players may be as good as anyone’s best 3-5 players, but the players from 6 to 25 or 30 would prove to be the big difference.
A good 5A like what was mentioned would wear down even an elite 2A program like Abbeville. Might be interesting through 1Q, but the war of attrition will be won by the bigger program.
That’s not to say Abbeville couldn’t beat a bad 5A like Riverside or Fort Mill, but they ain’t beating a good one or even an average one 99 times out of 100.
None of this takes away from what Abbeville has accomplished in the least.
Abbeville need to schedule a good 5A school next year
Re: Abbeville need to schedule a good 5A school next year
Well one smallest 2A scheduled Hartsville a pretty Great 4a school program few times ask them how the war of attrition was won . And not only without a doubt one game we could hang with the average 4A or 5A...you can only play 11 at time. Some schools can't or won't take the challenge of abbeville. Panthers will step to the plate. Ask Christ School from Asheville, Nc that recruit players from across the nation how they feel about abbeville now. With 14 D1 recruits couldn't handle the pressure this year. GO Panthers...Go Fight WinFTW69420 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 1:51 pmAbbeville has talent, runs a great system and has an amazing culture.

Why don’t Abbeville do like Coach Varner (Woodruff for you young Dudes) did in the mid to late 60’s move up one class by permission from the SHDL. You get better competition and see what you really got.

I don't know of any teams actually wanting or asking to go up, except maybe Berkley who would be super tough in 4A. I mean why would you
Re: Abbeville need to schedule a good 5A school next year
Abbeville is not even one of the bigger AA schools right now, even played in Class A for two years not long ago. Would be foolish to play up to the likes of Daniel, Chapman, etc, because of numbers alone. IDK how big Woodruff High was back in the 70's, but, they dressed out an incredible number of players for a AA school the times I saw them.

I was just giving you guys a solution to getting some competition. Coach Varner took the leap and did quite well. Yes, Woodruff had quite a few players but a good coach get people to come out to play. Talking about being a small school, Woodruff was the smallest in the class they move up to. By the way, I said he did this in the mid to late 60’s. In the 6 years he played up, he won 1 state championship and lost 1 by 1 point.*Topcat* wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 11:37 pmAbbeville is not even one of the bigger AA schools right now, even played in Class A for two years not long ago. not sure who the coach at Abbeville is, but Varner was one of the greats..no offense meant, whoever it is he's obviously doing well and being effective

I knew Abbeville was going to blow out Marion. It's the Panther Tradition! Abbeville is a football town.
