The 43-year-old is a former Gamecock assistant (2007-2010) and the son of former legendary Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer.

Beamer was asked from Phil Kornblut about competing against in-state rival Clemson, who has been a powerhouse of a program the last decade while the Gamecocks have been mired in mediocrity.

He called Clemson "that program in the upstate" before answering the question.

Hey Slick, I think this is a great hire for My Gamecocks!!!! Shane Beamer was My pick all along. I told Penguin at Beaufort's Playoff Game that I thought The Gamecocks would Hire Beamer. Coach Beamer is a good young coach who has a Father that was a very good coach. Coach Beamer was born in Charleston and has coached under some very good Coaches. I look for him to do a great Job at Carolina. I am so happy on this hire and can't wait to see what he can do with the Gamecocks.

They only hired Beamer after every other coach who still has a pulse, told them to shove it. When the guy at Liberty, the guy at Louisiana, and the guy at Coastal Carolina, tell you to go take a hike, you have to realize just how low your program is viewed.

Beamer has never been a head coach, hell, he has never been a co-ordinator. He may be the answer when all is said and done, but my money is on just another coach who will be fired before his contract is up, and he will be another coach on the payroll who is being paid to not coach. The problem isn't these coaches, it is the AD and the University President. Get rid of Tanner and they just might make a smart move one of these days. But hey, as a REAL Carolina fan, I am enjoying watching the chickens run around without a head. Kind of fun to watch, in a twisted way.
