Unless there are some true upsets, my humble opinion of Region 3 boils down simply to this.
10/11/2013 South Pointe @ Nation Ford
This game should decide the 3rd and 4th place in Region 3. Northwestern has already defeated South Pointe and I don't see either of these teams winning against Northwestern or York.
South Pointe's defense is strong against the run and weak against the pass. Nation Ford is more passing oriented as they are averaging 302 yards per game passing and only 132 yards per game rushing. If the Nation Ford offensive line can give the qb time to throw, Nation Ford could put up a lot of points. On the other hand, South Pointe's offense is pretty much all rushing. Nation Ford has given up a lot of points to weaker teams.
I think South Pointe's defensive line will prove to be too strong for the Nation Ford offensive line and South Pointe's offense will run the ball successfully enough to keep the clock running, shorten the game, and put enough points on the board.
Prediction: South Pointe
10/25/2013 York @ Northwestern
This has shaped up to be the game for the Region 3 championship.
York's two big wins were away at Boiling Springs (46-45) and home against Gaffney (35-32).
Northwestern's big wins were Gaffney (51-19), Charlotte Catholic (38-17) , Byrnes (42-35)...(all home games), and away at South Pointe (27-0).
Stats after 6 games (Maxpreps):
Northwestern has scored 274 points while giving up 78.
York has scored 263 while giving up 146.
The last few weeks, Northwestern has simply shown up, did the most minimal to win, looked bad while winning, and seemed to be just going through the motions, especially on offense. The defense did what it was supposed to do and shut out Lancaster and South Pointe.
York will definitely show up against Northwestern. The question is which Northwestern offense will show up. Will it be the one that put 42 on Byrnes or the one that stumbled all over the field against Lancaster and South Pointe.
Both Northwestern and York caught a break on the schedule as this week's games are against very weak teams. Looking ahead to "the big game" should not affect the outcomes this week.
I think the local rivalry and the region championship will be motivation enough to get Northwestern's offense focused and energized.
Prediction: Northwestern

Great minds think alike....
Exactly how I seeded them this week. I know the QB is gone, but there are still enough options for SP to overcome Nation Ford and like you, I think the South Pointe D Line will be on the QB like an extra jersey. NF has allowed a lot of points to teams that I don't thin are the caliber of SP without the starting QB, so that is why I left them at #3. I'm convinced that York is for real and unless you just landed here from Mars, you know Northwestern is for real, so that leaves them at #1 and #2, and I'm going to say that playing Gaffney and Byrnes has Northwestern ready for the York game. I think you hit the nail square on the head!
Especially the part about "true upsets" as anyone beating Northwestern outside of York would be an upset.
Northwestern Clover - NW could be like Byrnes and hear "RUNNING IT UP"
Northwestern Fort Mill - Again, not ready for Prime Time at Fort Mill (except for the band)
Northwestern York - Toughest Hill To Climb
Northwestern Nation Ford - And only if the stars a aligned perfectly do I see a "L" here
Northwestern Rock Hill - Stranger things have happened and it is one of the biggest Rivalry Games in the State...

So a Goose Creek win over NW would be an upset?

I'm guessing that the "true upsets" they were referring to, included anyone else in Region 3.

Hey, I don't blame you guys for playing the "No RESPECT" Card from time to time.GATORFAN#001 wrote:Just pulling the chain trying to stir up some football talk.... Why isn't Goose Creek Ranked #1, (or at the very least) getting more 1st place Votes?

33 in a row
Last time GC lost a game to a team from SC was 2010. (Northwestern)
Last time GC lost a regular season game to a team from SC was 2009. (Berkeley)

GC didn't lose to Beaufort in 2009. That's a typo on SC History Football. GC has beaten Beaufort like 8 years in a row.EHSMeanGreen wrote:Hey, I don't blame you guys for playing the "No RESPECT" Card from time to time.GATORFAN#001 wrote:Just pulling the chain trying to stir up some football talk.... Read the title... REGION 3 1st-4th. We are not talking about playoffs here, simply REGION III standings. In Region III, I think York has the potential, however, no one else seems likely to me. If they played this week, I'd have that as "PICK 'EM" and no one would get points.GATORFAN#001 wrote:Rebel-Fan-74 wrote:Great minds think alike....
