The Problem is you have schools where the coaches, principals and superintendents find creative ways to not count certain populations which allows them to be 4A- oops- instead of 5A. It allowed others to remain 3A-oops- instead of 4A.

The good ole boy system is alive and well.

Of course, Karma is always the winner.

So do you have to count 4th year juniors ? I know some schools did that in order to drop down a class.

Welcome to SCPrepTalk. Interesting screen name. :D Would you like me to set your team affiliation or just leave it as-is?

It's a lot more complex than that.

They take the 9th - 11th grade population, then they add some other factors as well, then they take 40 for 5A, last time is was 39 for 4A and 40 for 3A and 2A and the remaining were 1A.

Where the issues lie is that the locations of those in 5A for example get difficult to put into balanced Regions.... i.e. Rock Hill and Northwestern are much closer to Fort Mill and Nation Ford and Clover than Spring Valley, Blythewood and Ridge View; however, Boiling Springs and Gaffney were added to Ft Mill, NF and Clover, driving past Rock Hill to get to NF and Clover????
The York County issue was difficult to avoid. The best way to keep those 5 schools together would’ve included putting Gaffney and BS with Spring Valley, Ridge View, and Blythewood.

The issue for York County is if there’s a weird number of 5A teams they can only go west or south. The next 5A schools geographically east is probably Conway or Carolina Forest

York County can be it’s own region if the new Fort Mill school Catawba Ridge is 5A this next time.
