As I read through several comments and statements we really need to get a better handle on the rules and facts.
1. Straight Herron left SP because he was eligible to retire. Then takes the job at Legion because guess what it's now 2 paychecks instead of one.
2. All private schools and Charter still have to follow the same rules of all the other members of the SCHSL.
3. Three of the four private schools are in Greenville County and several charters .. guess what GC is school choice. Meaning kids can go wherever they want. Several other counties are the same way.
4. SC House and Senate are all pro school choice. That's not changing ! If anything it will get expanded.
5. SCHSL is not the evil empire. They are also under the Department of Education.
6. You cannot choose what classification you are in. It is done by the SCHSL based on you enrollment... period.
Lots of very inaccurate statements being made by lots of misinformed people. Weather you agree or not is not the argument. But we at least need to argue the facts and have an accurate interpretation of the rules.

Which private school does your child attend? Or do you coach? Recruiter?mrfootballtalk wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 4:52 pmAs I read through several comments and statements we really need to get a better handle on the rules and facts.

The fact of the matter is if you believe these schools are not actively recruiting, you are naive. Take a look at who has won the overwhelming majority of state championships over the past 15 years and tell me something isn't up. Yes they have the same rules as the public schools, but no they are not going to follow them due to the loopholes they have found. We literally have IMG wannabe schools popping up all over the place that happen to attract a multitude of athletes and are winning titles within a few years of opening. School choice isn't meant for athletics... so you can take that argument somewhere else because you're only using it for it's convenience in your argument.

Re: Misinformation
should I be forced to go to a failing school or play for a failing program based on my address?

This guy (“MrFootballTalk”) knows everything, no matter the subject, no need to rebuttal because he just wants to be right, even when he’s wrong.fridaynighttalking wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 10:30 amWhich private school does your child attend? Couldn’t find a meter, but here’s 4 bucks!
Re: Misinformation
No, go to wherever you please it’s your money/future. They should be in their own league though since they are similar in how they obtain students. Traditional public schools should be in their own league since they don’t get to choose their students (technically).Onion Rings wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 11:27 amshould I be forced to go to a failing school or play for a failing program based on my address?

Re: Misinformation
Why are schools failing? Why are programs failing? Maybe ponder that question. If you would like to discuss our state education system as a whole, I would oblige, but let's consider the reasons these programs are failing... It just might have something to do with their best players being poached by the highest bidder? Just maybe? Our state has a rich history in football, do you think these practices are enriching or destroying it? Traditional powerhouse 1A, 2A, and 3A programs are now "failing." Why?Onion Rings wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 11:27 amshould I be forced to go to a failing school or play for a failing program based on my address?

Schools are failing for a variety of reasons, but leadership is a major factor. A school close by or not close by is a great success. Can I go to a better school to improve my situation?
programs are failing because there are not enough good coaches to go around. Very few coaches even know what they are doing, but they are making 60k-100k a year to fail at football. If this is your school, should the players be allowed to seek a better program? I say yes, you say no
coaches switch schools all the time to get a better situation. Players should be able to do the same. If you are a competent coach, with a good program, players will not leave
Why are "traditional" powers failing? Coaching
We've all seen how a competent coach can bring a team back pretty darn quick (Hodge at Spartanburg comes to mind). When you lock a player into a failing program a lot of times they just don't play
you and I don't see the same problem. Football is not failing in SC it is succeeding. The program "recruits" the player. These coaches are not going door to door looking for transfers. The players and parents are seeking them out to better their situation
Re: Misinformation
So just to show that their is recruiting. How do you explain students getting letters when they are in middle school from these charter schools about coming to their school instead of the high school they are zoned to go to? Are they sending these letters out to everyone???? Are non-athletes getting the same opportunity to enroll at these schools?
Also how do you explain the coaches from charter schools, not going into high schools necessarily to recruit but going to middle school football and basketball games to recruit students before they hit high school?
These charter schools do not have a middle school that feeds into them so they are going and talking to kids at their middle school games as well as their parents about how they should go to the charter schools that are nearby. You may not call that recruiting because they are "simply putting the word out that there are other options" but that is indeed recruiting.
