680 - STAGS GAMES AND COUNTING
Re: New turf to be installed at Socastee
As schools continue to convert to turf the fear of ACL injuries that were once a negative has mainly gone by the wayside. Each season I watch teams I often wonder statistically how these schools have been able to take better advantage of their speed on these surfaces, lowered maintenance cost, not to forget how much better the fields and stadiums look. It can often even bring a higher level of pride to the neighborhood.
I miss the days of the mud games I and my teammates have played in, but I also remember the games that were canceled (they wouldn't have been back in Slick or mines day) because of the fear of tearing up the field. Playing on fields that had so many uneven areas that became pools when it rained are now gone with this installation.
I can imagine the possibilities for schools in the low country that don't have the turf and wonder just how much better they could be with it such as Goose Creek, Berkeley, or even Fort Dorchester. I am glad the school I attended put it in a long time ago. While much of their problems have been due to coach selection and the influx of gang-related activity in the community, I am still very proud of how the field and school look.
As of this next season, every school (6) I have had an affiliation to will have installed turf.

Can’t wait to see what Renfrow Stadium looks like when finished.
