The Year In Review 2013

Post by Rebel-Fan-74 »

It seems like yesterday, I was sitting in a hospital room, watching the Rebels playing the defending Class 8A State Champions from Florida, the Apopka team was favored at Nixon Field, but the Rebels were ready. Coaching changes and 7 on 7 Competitions behind them, the Rebels were ready for football. ESPN was here, the fans were here, and we were "ready for some football."

Now, another season is over and we are ready for the playoffs. A Region Championship and the overall #1 seed have been earned, but the journey is not complete..... this team wants to make a trip to Columbia and bring back another AAAA State Championship Trophy to Duncan. The Rebels enter the playoffs primed and ready to get that title and by many accounts, are the favorites to be playing in Columbia on Championship weekend.

The offensive squad has played quite well all season and has set a few records along the way, individuals as well as team records. The defense, under new leadership has struggled at times and shined at times. If there is any reason for concern as we head into the playoffs, it may be "will the defense bring their A Game every week?" We've seen some great performances and we also wondered what was going on, at times.

I fully expect the home field advantage to play a part in the playoff run as Nixon Field has been quite an advantage for the past few years. I think the Rebels will start off strong against Wando and fully expect them to be ready to play at peak performance levels and have it on cruise control in the second half.

Weeks two and three, should be more of a challenge, but I have faith that this team can and will make it through to Columbia. Depending on the schedule of the surgery, I could be ending the season like it began, watching the Rebels win a big game on TV....

Win or lose, I've been fortunate to watch high school football for another season, and for that I am grateful and consider myself blessed. We at Duncan are able to watch some fine young men week after week who put a great effort and a great show for us! That same thing happens at stadiums all over this state and for that we should all be very grateful.
