I'm going to try and be the voice of reason, and I love Greenwood football. But not being real doesn't fix issues. The truth is they just aren't that good right now. It's not necessarily the kids, they're playing there butts off. If a scheme isn't working you have to mix it up in my opinion. If I keep running up against a cement wall waiting for it to break I will eventually run out of time. I would have to find another way to get around the wall. I've been saying for a few weeks that things need to diversify a little. We need to start developing our QBs so they can pass accurately and mix in more pass. I'm not saying abandon the option, but mix it up. Keep teams guessing. It is hard to beat really good teams running only unless you have an almost perfect team. They did go into gun late in the game, but it was well over by then.
I can't argue with you on that. I think we all can see we need to develop a passing game in the triple option. Maybe attempt 8 to 10 passes a game similar to Abbeville. We definitely can't be one dimensional against good teams like South Point, Greenville, South Florence, Hartsville, Northwestern and etc. We will be packing our bags and headed back home to the Eagle Nest while watching others go deep in the playoffs. We are exposed this year.
There were actually around 10 attempts in the last game, but most of those came when the game was in hand.
Big problems on the defensive side too. Greenwood is giving up 40 points a game to good teams. More than 30 to everybody except North Augusta. More than 40 in 2 games. Right now, everything is broke. But, they have an easy win coming next and that may help a lot. I would like for Greenwood to score 40 in that game, that would help, i think.
The thing is, winning because the opponent isn't strong doesn't really help Greenwood. Not if the goal is to compete for championships. They just have to get better. I have faith that the coaching staff will develop them and put them in a position to be successful. On a side note. Lots of those points scored by opponents came from turnovers and giving them a short field.
