Totally agree about the younger coaches. How did the old ones get experience.

Re: North Augusta
Sadly, football is the moneymaker for a HS athletic program...if the HC of the football team wins and brings in the fans, they need to compensate accordingly. Education seems to be an after thought at times, but it doesn't have to be. True Knotts is paid well as HC, but he has an advance degree if memory serves and is a Duke alum. Coaches teach other skills that are hard to measure, but are important to the overall well-being and adjustment of a youth. Grammar wasn't a huge concern during a complex attack, but teamwork came in handy.Penguin wrote: ↑Sun Apr 30, 2023 3:38 pmOK Mr. Know-It-All. Beaufort County School District pays $18,000.00 per year stipend for High School Head Coaching positions. The remainder of the salary is based upon the type of College Degree, the level of the class being taught, AND the years of experience within the School District. That is why Rodney Summers and Jerry Hatcher made more money than Bryce Lybrand. Achievements do not factor into that salary. The base salary for teachers in the Beaufort County School District are some of the highest in the state. Those sir, are the true facts, not some alternate facts. Just saying that Rodney Summers and Jerry Hatcher make more money, while true, are not indicative of the actual situation. Lybrand would make exactly the same as they do if all factors were equal.SF Band dad wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 11:55 pmAlternate facts? Please point those out.
Fact: Your head coach's pay is lower than 65% of the other head coaches in the state.
Fact: It is only 8% below the median head coach's pay, but in my opinion, that's pretty shabby for someone that took their team to the championship game two years in a row, and won one of them.
I know they can afford it, considering how much they charged me to park.
A completely homer biased view....Knotts should be paid more than any other HC, just sayin'....haha. Outcomes.

DFOLDMAN, I actually agree with what you are saying about the moneymaking of a HS Football Program. I don't know that much about your School District, but here in Beaufort County, our School District Budget is really high because of the tax base residing here. Tons of 2nd homes in our County, taxed at 6% as opposed to the 4% tax rate for 1st homes. Along with that 6%, goes a surcharge to pay for 100% of the School District Operations Budget. Businesses also pay that 6% rate. To my point, Beaufort County School District is flush with cash. The one downside, is that we have 6 Senior High Schools in our District. 3 is probably the correct amount, as HH Island High, Whale Branch High, & Possum Hill High, all could be shuttered and the students reapportioned to the remaining 3. What that means, is a dilution of funds for all of the Schools. Beaufort High has benefitted enormously from the last 2 years in Football, with 2 straight Championship game appearances. All of the Schools here have all received Field Turf for their Stadiums, and the choice of an upgraded weight room, or Jumbotron Scoreboards. But one thing that Beaufort County School District is adamant on, is that athletics are not more important than Education. Our School Board has issued several mandates to assure that credo is adhered to. Coach's and Assistant Coach's salaries reflect that edict. Beaufort County School District is not a sports performance based entity. Very few State Championships outside of Wrestling and Track & Field, are prevalent here. That being said, sports programs actually being cash cows for our District, is not the norm. While I agree with what you are saying, the reality is that the Beaufort County School District does not see it that way.

Re: North Augusta
Any updates on North Augusta and the coaching search?
Re: North Augusta
The job is no longer posted on the Aiken County Job Board, they named Richard Bush, a guy that was on staff as the interim HC. He had applied for the HC position twice before and did not get it. From everything I have heard he is a pretty good guy. He was the HC/AD at Wiliston-Elko for a while. He is a NA grad. I wouldn't be surprised if they let him run with it until something new and shiny comes along and that principal will jump all over the shiny new toy.
Re: North Augusta
You are correct...the tax base makes a huge difference in the ability to recruit and retain the best teachers and also coaches...Rich/Lex 5 did have the highest per capita household income from the 2020 census, but I am unsure of that in 2023 but still I would think in the top 5. Second homes on Lake Murray and several nice housing developments around Chapin, Lexington, Irmo and Ballentine- bedroom communities for Columbia. Rich/Lex 5 has Dutch Fork, Chapin, River Bluff, Irmo, White Knoll, Lexington and the charter school Spring Hill. The district does well in other sports aside from football with DF. I believe all of the schools mentioned to an excellent job preparing students for college or the work world. My 3 sons are all DF grads, Carolina grads, with advance degrees/certifications in their career field; and work as a civil engineer, licensed surveyor and an environmental geologist/consultant. DF was key in their educational preparation and I believe their participation in high school sports part of that success...teamwork, discipline, responsibility. In my eyes, Rich/Lex 5 was crucial in their development and success. Teachers, coaches and administrators were all integral as during that time I was living and working abroad and most of this fell to my wife- they were a huge help to us keeping the boys focused.Penguin wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 1:47 pmDFOLDMAN, I actually agree with what you are saying about the moneymaking of a HS Football Program.
