Derrick Law Firm Carolinas Clash in Myrtle Beach/Conway

Post by Go Tigers »

*Derrick Law Firm Carolinas Clash schedule set

The Derrick Law Firm football event was altered quite a bit from year one to year two, even changing names and format.

The third version is going to look even more different.

The 2014 Carolinas Kickoff Clash schedule has been set. Games will now be played over the course of three days, Aug. 28-30, with Myrtle Beach and Conway each opening the event with home games on that Thursday. The Seahawks will play West Brunswick (N.C.), a traditional opponent of several Grand Strand teams, while Chuck Jordan’s Conway team will play Hoggard (N.C.).

Friday will include one game – perennial N.C. powerhouse Richmond County playing Marlboro County – while Socastee-Southeast Raleigh and South Florence-New Hanover will be played on Saturday.

Event director Mark Stafford has said multiple times in the past month he was hoping for bigger attendance numbers from this year’s games. However, with several teams having to travel more than two hours to get to Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, those figures stayed lower than expected.

The addition of Socastee, a team located just a few miles south, should help. On top of that, Pee Dee teams Marlboro County and South Florence could increase attendance. West Brunswick, meanwhile, is also located just across the border.

That means six of the 10 teams are from no more than a one-hour drive from Myrtle Beach.

The other major shift in the event is removing the Saturday afternoon noon games that took place this August. High temperatures dissuaded fans from showing up, Stafford said.
