Newberry at Abbeville for second round!

Post by mayorofhooterville »

The Bulldog defense stopped the Tigers' offense three times on fourth-down attempts last night. They also threw an interception during the night.

The nine-point Newberry win sends coach Jeter and his Bulldogs on-the-road to Abbeville for the second-year straight to Abbeville.

The two teams have been battling each other for over 100 years, so let's strap-them-up and see what happens!

Nice win for Newberry. Don't know much about the Dogs this year, but it will be a good night for football. Nothing like the playoffs.

Nice for Newberry to get a playoff win. Unfortunately, the road stops with the machine down in Abbeville.

They definitely are!
Last year we went there, it started pouring towards the end, and then a year or a year or two before that...we froze at Christ Church!
Hopefully, the weather will be a lot nicer tonight!
Hope you-and-yours are doing well, Tim!

So congrats to my team for a win and advancing on. For the most part we took care of business. At least until the 4eh quarter. First, for the second straight week, I don't know why we don't attempt to drive and score with good field position and over 2 minutes left in half, with timeouts. I know we were up 21-0 but its still the 1st half!!! So we just shut down, resulting in a punt for a net 0 yards and allow Newberry a TD with seconds left in half. I just don't agree with that passive philosophy, but, its a trend with us. 2nd half we get going again, actually go up 41-7 in 4th. Then through a combination of turnovers, shutting down the offense, subbing, etc., Newberry scored the last 21 points, all in the 4th. I tip my hat to Newberry, they kept on playing and did not shut down, they won the 4th quarter big. Now I don,t believe in running up a score, but, I also don't like seeing a 41-7 game end up 41-28. That's what can happen when you take your foot off. We might not want to become so passive next time with a nice lead, before the half as well. Happy for the win, thankful for our program, coaches and players, on to Silver Bluff. Go Panthers! Newberry has a young team with talent. If they keep it together they can be good next year.

There have been countless games that could argue the other way...... let the defense play, and let high school age football players be what they are...... more games are lost than are won.

Regardless, Y'all got a pretty good squad going on... might try to come and watch the kids play before it is over.
