Abbeville in 2nd place with number 13

Post by Atown97 »

I'm So So Proud of these Guys. People wrote them off all year after Batesburg-Leesville beat them. Abundance of Abbevillians wouldn't attend games because the team was in 1A. Sometimes you need to listen to Haters Sometimes to unlock that inner glow and that's exactly what Dixie did. Every since that game Atown Got it together more and more every week. Believe in themselves when no one else did. One of The most prolific offense in Abbeville history was witnessed this year. I'm proud to a Alumni and also a State Champion from 1996 Team...1997 Graduate. Those Panthers Showed up Like Panthers do Represent /A\Town Tradition lives forever...Number 13...Number 9 For Coach Jamie Nickles

Not exactly sure who you are speaking to, but, speaking for myself only, I did not attend the Region games because to actually call them games is quite a stretch. There was nothing to them, unwatchable for the most part. Abbeville is not a 1A program, though mathematically I suppose we can claim 1A. I haven't spoken to anyone who was happy playing in this division this year. It was administration who appealed for this. The pride and competitiveness of this program deserves better competition. IMO. We had starters playing a quarter and a half for many games in a row, is that what we want, or what those kids want? I realize that we may be destined for 1A in the future but it didn't have to be this year or next. That said, I never wrote this team off for one second, There was never any doubt this bunch would win the State, none. I don't know who these haters are. The fact that some folks didn't like this move, may have skipped some of these massively mismatched games, doesn't make them haters. I'm happy for the players and coaches on a good year, though it was absolutely totally predictable. The plain truth is, and it's not the players or coaches fault, but, this year was in no way comparable to two years ago whipping Saluda for Upper and OC for the State. The excitement was just lacking. That said, I hope we win 10 in a row, and, we just might.

Congrats to Abbeville on winning the 13th
state championship. I am a Panther fan
except for 1 game every year, 2 games
for a couple of years in the past :) .
As long as Abbeville has the athletes
coming through the football program
from the Rec league through high school
like they have for over 50 years now they
will continue to win or be in the mix for
the championship That is still unreal
for a small community .All you
have to do is go watch a rec game or a
middle school game and say wow.

Just keep your grumpy arse at home. I bet the program didn't miss you one bit. At least they know what kind of fan you are now.

Dang, some people will complain about finding a $100 bill on ground because is has mud on it.

The Fishhook on 71 yes. What does that have to do with what kind of fan I am?

You were one who questioned whether or not I should keep my comments to something I have knowledge of..... I know plenty about Abbeville.

I've had plenty of hot dogs at the Rough House and my Daddy used to take a bath there when he was kid for a nickel. But I probably ate more dogs from Ray Trainers' Gulf Station on the bypass... those might have been better, but certainly were cheaper by a nickel back when a nickel was worth something.

I've seen plenty of action on the Square and know how much the Opera House brought people back to town. Got my first of many a suit of clothes at Rosenburgs.

I've spent many a weekend on Erskine Beach, and spent some time on the Blue Hole down in Calhoun Falls. Watched the dam being built that made the lake.

I've got family on Parker Street, they even gave the land for the Rec field down on Chestnut Street where I played my little league ball.

I've also got family that gave land for the Dixie Youth field by the high school.

My grandfathers first job was at the old livery stables on Trinity Street, just up from the Episcopal Church... And the Village Grill is about the best restaurant this side of Atlanta if you're looking for fine dining.

Pat Hodge processed many hogs and cows for our family, I hate that they are no longer in business.

I was detoured by the sheriff when the Bixbys shot Danny Boy. As a kid I remember my folks driving us around to see the damage from the tornado in '73.

I know Lowndesville, Antreville, Donalds, Arborville, Cedar Springs, Level Land, and the Nation. I've been up and down Secession Hill too many times to count.

I don't remember the '71 championship, but I do remember the second one. I've watched many a kid ride a cardboard box down the hill by the concession stand. I know not to stand in front the men in folding chars up by the press box, and to get a reserved seat you simply need to lay a blanket on the concrete bleachers for your spot.

So, please tell me what I do and do not have knowledge of.

Wasn't directing anything towards you as a person or fan TopCat. But a few of your statements may seem you was apart of the Negative part community for the year. My only serious question did we score anymore points or did players play anymore than they have in the last 4yrs of region play I think Not. Abbeville JV haven't had a full season in 4yrs And when I say Full season more than 5 or 6 games in a year. We are Lucky that the young fellas get reps in during that Terrible region play. Also as apart of the Community support the kids 1st and foremost. Abbeville fans are some of the most spoiled ever. We can't even be happy with 13th Championship in school history. Worrying about which class we are in. This Senior class was the only class with a 100 plus kids in it at the high school. Last year graduation class had 89 in it...if you can't see it you don't want to see it...Thankful For Great Rec league program that won 12U Saturday to keep the pipeline of willful young Panthers ready to play for the A...Because some will show up some won't. Doesn't matter Atown Tradition Forever

Dude I'm glad you have spent time here, no problem with that whatsoever, was not referring to that. You made a comment about what kind of fan I am, that is what you do not have knowledge of. Simple as that. How about a 19 year streak of not missing a game? Only broken due to being too sick to go. I always feared my streak would be broken due to the bad type of bug that goes around this time of year. After a few close calls it finally got me in 2019. Abb vs Gray at Newberry College. I still bleed over the 29-28 loss to Pageland -Central in 1998. I'm not a casual fan, I am a diehard fan.
