Winning team, Losing Team? (3A edition)

Post by EHSMeanGreen »

A big part of determining final points for the 4A teams is figuring bonus points.
Winning 3A teams (6 wins) count the same as a 4A team, Losing 3A teams (< 6 wins) each count one point less.
(5-5) 3A teams that do not make the playoffs aren't counted as winning teams.

Several 3A teams are still on the border of winning/losing, tell me which teams you think will get to 6 wins and which teams won't.
(CITYSLICKER, BEF, others....HELP)

3A Region 2
- Southside (4-5)
3A Region 4
- Camden (5-4)
3A Region 5
- Gilbert (5-4)
- Midland Valley (5-4)
- Swansea (5-4)
3A Region 6
- Darlington (5-4)
- Lakewood (5-4)
- Marlboro County (4-5)
3A Region 7
- Wilson (5-4)
3A Region 8
- Beaufort (5-4)
- Berkeley (5-4)
- Hilton Head (4-5)

It appears they have made a slight change to the 4A handbook this year.

Link to 4A Handbook

At the bottom of the table on page 44:
  • *If a Class A, AA or AAA team with a 5-5 record advances to the 2nd round of their play-offs, the record shall be counted as a winning record.
That tells me that if a lower class team wins their first playoff game or if they get a bye to the 2nd round, they will be considered to have a winning record for the purposes of awarding 4A playoff points.

Am I reading that right?

Camden has been banned from the playoffs because of the fight with Dreher, so they have to beat AC Flora this week to achieve a winning record.

That could make a 1 point difference for West Florence and Lugoff-Elgin.

That has been that way for years....basically, the first round for A, AA, and AAA counts as a regular game as far as AAAA is concerned. A 5-5 team that wins in "our week 11" is a "WINNING RECORD"

I agree that the first round game has always counted, but I think, "If a ... team with a 5-5 record advances to the 2nd round", is a slight change. They don't have to win, they just have to advance. I don't know how many 5-5 teams earn a bye, but it could make a difference.

Anyway, it's a change for me. My spreadsheet is setup to look for 6 wins. I'm thinking that I'll have to check for that after week 10 and manually toggle any that qualify to having a winning record.

I guess that is possible to advance with a "BYE"

Never thought about that!

Yeah, now that I look at it, it's very unlikely that could happen. I've never paid that much attention to the other class's brackets, but only 2A has byes in the playoffs, and it's for the top 4 seeded teams in each of the 4 brackets. (Div I and II, Upper and Lower)
