Maybe they should postpone the rest of football untill next spring for everyone. Couldn’t they do that? Everyone loves spring ball.

Two weeks, three weeks…….just push the season back as far as needed and pick up where you left off.

Just my 2 cents here, but my question is this: "What would you propose doing if it were just the lowcountry teams that were affected"? Not trying to start a war here, just putting it out there that the shoe is on the other foot this time around, and that the Lowcountry schools have always been forced to play midweek games or make-up games after the season ends. This is actually NOT a new scenario. That is all.

I think the last two times this has happened we extended the season, and that was primarily low country teams.Penguin wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 6:21 pmJust my 2 cents here, but my question is this: "What would you propose doing if it were just the lowcountry teams that were affected"? Re: I think is it time for the SCHSL to address the issues
Here is my proposal. In the classifications affected that cannot get 9 games in by playing one week on shorter turnaround time. Where that is the case eliminate the first round of the playoffs and either give that one week to make up a game or more to the HSL financial teams liking create a “playoff” scenario where teams that don’t make the reduced championship field get a “bowl game” of sorts that would we within a 2 region area say region 1 v region 2 matchups or just create a consolation bracket so teams can get to at least 10 games. Then there is no need to play to Christmas, the HSL gets their gate money, teams get 10 games and the Shrine Bowl and North South go on as planned with players who have earned the opportunity to play in those games getting the earned recognition.
Re: I think is it time for the SCHSL to address the issues
My scenario would be to have one week for the players to get back into football shape for safety reasons. Pick up where you left off. Eliminate all BYE weeks. If that meant a non region game, scrap it and move into region play. Take top 3 teams instead of automatic 4 team qualifiers. Any ties in regions that can't be solved mathematically or by some type of formula then you have a "wild card" game to determine who gets the 3rd spot. Many of your Bball & Wrestlers that play FB will be ready to check out once they realize they aren't making the playoffs or at the least getting shipped off for a mercy killing and senseless bus ride in round 1.
The HSL or districts, whoever makes the decisions could also do away with the rules that say no school means no extracurricular activities so the kids can practice. That would eliminate needing at least one extra week. Some of these schools need the revenue from football games just to break even or lessen the debt at the end of the year. There are some GC schools still without power. Some of the school properties are being used for shelter and staging sites for linemen equipment.
