ABBEVILLE has less than 500 students.
if they were playing 3a or 4a teams
they would beat most of them every
year.they would hang with most 5a teams
some years.i have watched them play many
times over the last 54 years.very seldom
do they have a bad season.the talent just
keeps coming year after year.some of the
kids playing for them now i remember when
there daddy's played.nothing fancy,they just
run the ball and wear teams out.
Does school size really matter?

School size doesn't matter to The Chester Cyclones, they have played and beat several 5A and 4A Schools this year, and now they are going play a team that should be in the 4A, The Union County Yellow Jackets for the 3A Upper state. Also The South Pointe Stallions always plays the 5A schools that are in their area every year.

Re: Does school size really matter?
There are some schools that buck the trend. Abbeville, Dillon, Hartsville,... a few others that always seem to reload. They are exceptions that over-perform for their size. Those schools often have a positive tradition and stable feeder programs. (Middle school & Recreation leagues). Those elements can provide a deeper talent pool than the enrollment numbers alone would.

Give me a championship minded, no excuses coach. No lack of talent in Greenwood. We've competed at champion level with every coach but about 2 of them. We are one of those 5A's who currently couldn't beat Abbeville, and we're traditionally very good.SF Band dad wrote:There are some schools that buck the trend. It does matter to those who like to make excuses for not winning.

Only 5% of the smaller schools made it past the 2nd round. Statistics.

Re: Does school size really matter?
Not that much. Now it would if you had 5A's playing 1 A's. But within the breakdowns they have, not really. If that were the case Wando should have been the greatest team this state has ever seen.

Probably would be very good with different coaches.plenty of talent.to much political decisions made on stature and friendships. That crap dont translate to winning football.Deputy wrote:Not that much. Now it would if you had 5A's playing 1 A's. But within the breakdowns they have, not really. Example a certain green team could be magnificent if a experienced coach would have been hired.how they turned them away with a straight face.hell they had a coach on staff coach king had more pedigree than anyone they had on staff.ti be honest the A.D. of both schools mentioned should be run out of south Carolina.

All it takes is 23 good athletes, 11 on offense, and 11 on defense, and a good kicker and a good coach, even less then that if you have some players that play both ways, and if they are well trained athletes they should be able to go 4 Quarters no problem.
