Not at the same level of competition, but the same dynamic for York County as happened in Beaufort County. The over zealous effort of the school board to build more and more new facilities to accommodate low number of citizens at the detriment of the effects of the majority of citizens. Then, add into that equation, the influx of political motivation to circumvent the integration of public schools by encouraging the formation of Charter schools.

The current laws allowing the formation of Charter Schools is the pink elephant that nobody wants to talk about out loud. Charter Schools are the direct result of how money and power can move to further segregate our societies, if not strictly by race, definitely by social economics. Apparently the Department of Education has not learned the most common of basic truths; a chain is no stronger than it's weakest link. Charter Schools provide a situation by which those who are privileged can further distance themselves from those who are not. Public Education is not perfect, in fact it is far from it. However, all of the money thrown at the Charter School system would go a very long way towards solving some of the basic problems in the Public School system.

As far as athletics go, Charter Schools are free to "recruit" and offer scholarships to student athletes who can bring more attention to the Charter School. The Public Education system has to weigh the balance between education and extracurricular activities, and give priority to the Educational aspect. This allows for the Charter Schools to thrive due to the notoriety of their athletic successes. A good look from the outside, at the condition of public education in the state of Florida should give pause to anyone considering this to be a positive solution to any problem.

Hopefully, Rock Hill can survive this assault and get back to producing the jaw dropping statistics that they have come accustomed to. Sorry about the long rant, but someone has to point out some hard truths every once in a while.

You do have to apply for special admission, but with the help of a cooperative coach, AD, and principal, the school being applied to rarely turns them down. Only requirement is that they have to provide their own transportation.
Special admission...Deputy..thats funny as Heel to me...my daughter didnt play any sports or cheer when we moved up here in 2014. She was @ Rock Hill her junior year and then we moved to Lake Wylie in April that year...now instead of a 6 mile trip to school....it became 21 Miles and they wouldn’t let me move her to Clover unless i paid $4500.00 for “SPECIAL ADMISSION “!!! :o
True story...now high school sports is getting tainted as bad as college and the overpaid pros!!

that's dead on about the over zealous impulse to build more schools. As great as it's been, South Pointe was not needed, as evidenced by it's enrollment of 1300 kids (if that). Add those 650 back to RH and NW and they are the exact size they were when SP opened. Everything is diluted. 9th grade campus for both RH and NW was the correct move (as advocated by Coach Wallace). School board had other motivations, namely clean up RH, and hurt NW (members that drew the lines had kids/grandkids at RH or going to RH)

as for Legion, the kids can go to school for basically half a day and get credit for a full day (hint kids like that). They also don't go as many days as the public schools (kids like that too). Start after Labor day and get out the same time as the other schools, with a full week for Thanksgiving, more for Christmas. It sounds good to me.

Lastly, be careful before you start calling yourself, football city usa. Rock hill has a pretty average sports history, with a few years of great teams. Talent is too diluted and will continue to be

Is Hunt allowed to be head baseball coach since he is not a certified teacher? They district would not let Jarvis Davis be head football coach because of that. Seems like a double standard ! I had a baseball parent tell me they did not even posted the position or even interview any candidates before naming Hunt as coach.

Are we sure that is why Davis wasnt named head football coach? I know its been said and repeated here, but I've learned to not trust NW.

if the position was not posted, then the successful candidate does not have to meet the non-requirements

It is my understanding that the head football coach at Northwestern, Rock Hill, and South Pointe must be certified or currently enrolled in the South Carolina PACE program (towards certification). If they are not either one of those, then they are not eligible to be the head football coach. It is my understanding that this same qualification is NOT required for some other head coaching positions. This qualification has been in place for years and is not a new policy.

Did York County need South Pointe when they built it? No. But figure they built for the future as York County continues to boom because folks would rather live in SC than in Charlotte. Catawba Ridge just opened with a Fort Mill address, but is right on the top edge of Rock Hill. And it will probably get worse. If this deal with the Panthers works like they think it will, or like the Cowboys facility did in Frisco, they will need more schools. Wasnt much to Frisco before that facility, and now it is a boom town.

Good to see both Rock Hill and Northwestern get wins last night. Coach Wofford has his guys playing hard every week. RH has been playing hard as well, the defenses have stollen the show so far.
