Dan Pippin will retire at the end of the season.
There's your change.
Hopefully Emerald gets similar news about Tim McMahon next.

Emerald definitely need to do the same thing.
Re: The current state of Greenwood football
When is Greenwood going to finally realize that the talent pool has been split between Emerald and Greenwood. Over a 10 year period the program has steadily declined to a point that neither schools are competitive anymore. Dan Pippin didn't forget how to coach and you should feel lucky that you got a quality coach that cares like he does for ALL his players and coaches. He fought to get Greenwood into Division AAAA knowing you could not compete against the Dutch Forks, Gaffney's, and Fort Dorchesters with there size. And as long as Greenwood is competing in AAAAA there will probably be no more championships. Reality needs to set in whether Shell Dula, Gene Cathcart, or Pinky Babb himself were to come back. The realization is that Greenwood screwed up when they decided to add Emerald to the mix. So many programs have had this happen to them, Summerville, Spartanburg, Spring Valley, etc... When you bust up your talent pool and spread it you no longer are dominant!!

I couldn't disagree more. We've never lost to schools like Easley and Woodmont. We are very predictable and easy to defend. Time will tell. In 2012 they beat every school they played regardless of size. It's different. You have to be there to know. With that said. I wish him the best in whatever his next endeavors are.Damefan wrote:When is Greenwood going to finally realize that the talent pool has been split between Emerald and Greenwood. Re: The current state of Greenwood football
I remember a guy said the same thing after Dula retired in 2008.....but Cathcart came in and kick ass. 2010 runners up, 2011 runners up and 2012 state champs. Some coaches are championship material and some are not. I guess you can't come up short around a traditional football town.Damefan wrote:When is Greenwood going to finally realize that the talent pool has been split between Emerald and Greenwood.
