From what I have been told, they have no JV, or C team. Which is shocking considering they are a 5A school. Getting to the point that not many want to even play at Riverside anymore because the program has fallen to the point where they cant beat anyone on their schedule. Much less a game in Region 2. I would imagine the biggest difficulty in Shaw's game planning last week was trying to limit the score. If they were so inclined they could have hung 80-90 on them.
Hello Deputy,
Allow me to introduce myself, Im BYRNES#1 the greatest smack talker of all time. While my initial post was made partly to take a shot & Gaffney, please dont miss the true reason behind the post which was to give kudos to the Riverside players that suit up each week. They play teams that are far superior at almost every position, yet every year they sign up to play this game we all love. I said multiple times at the game that I thought it was awesome that they would do this.
So to call my post "stupid" is a little over board even if it had been 100% to take a shot at Gaffney (which it wasnt). Loosen up man, Im here to have a little fun, learn about this years teams & maybe even some cool history that I didnt know about teams in this state. :D

RCB you quit crying, you knew this was coming LMBO!!!!

Congratulations on your self proclaimed title of "greatest trash talker of all time". I have seen little evidence of it in this forum. But if that is what you want to convince yourself of, OK.

Wando 4k students had that same problem last year no jv.
One other school aswell.i cant remember.
Unfortunately, you see this, even at the 5A level in some places because of the SCHSL banning the 8 qtr rule. Coaches now often feel compelled to put 10th graders on varsity in case of injury issues even though they probably wont play. Causes more problems at the lower level. Still, an oddity for a 5A program to have neither a JV, or a C team.
We had to find teams to play last year due to it.we played a jv team from a lower classification. It was crazy.we went undeafeated though.only b team to do so.im sure some teams do push guys up.we had 4 go frim b team to varsity. Freshman qb hes real deal.3 o linemen (270cg 325 cg 290 gt). 2 were starters injury set them back(ankle sprains)one still starting.

Geeeez! Let the man share his opinion. He didn't talk negative of any team. To attack him is juvenile!

Practice what you preach.
Are you trolling me? Really?
Trolling? Say what?
You call me out for doing EXACTLY what you did? Go run and tell it, just like you did before.

Back to the original topic....

Not too many are aware, but Riverside petitioned to the SCHSL to play at a lower level and not be eligible for a Region Title or Playoff Berth. It would have allowed them to play at 4A level where they may have been a little more competitive... only for FOOTBALL. However, the SCHSL would not allow them.

I think they should have been allowed to do this so that it would have been good for both Riverside as well as the other members of the Region.

Sounds like it was a fair proposal on Riverside's part. Considering they play in the toughest football conference in the state what they should look at is trying to schedule those first 3 weeks against comparable programs. JL Mann, Wade Hampton come to mind if they want to schedule 5A local schools. This would allow for some possible early season W's to build momentum off of and excite the kids / fans.

There was a time before the 5 class system when Riverside was a big dog enrollment wise in 3A and they competed well in contact sports such as football and wrestling.

What sort of D Team program do they have? Is there any rec feeder situation to speak of?

It may take a complete redo on behalf of a coach who is willing to invest in coordinating with the middle school program, if they have one, and the youth program, again if they have one, and see if down the line they can eventually begin to win at the high school level.

I am betting sometime in the near future, more than 1 high school will not field a Varsity Football team.

It has happened in North Carolina on multiple occasions. 5A schools in NC with over 3000 students not fielding football teams is astounding.
