hey man, you gave me an idea for discussion. Describing the situation in Lancaster could any coach come in under those circumstances and change the culture of the community and school at the same time? I mean, is that the task? And if so, can it be done?

To be successful is it up to the coach to fix/heal the community?

Reminds me a little of Victor Floyd's impact on Chester High football, but guys like that are hard to find

That is a good discussion starter and I think it all depends on the situation. Some football coaches come in and are expected to just keep the machine running, while others need to rebuild the team and the community. In those cases, you are likely looking for two different people. That's why you can't access how well a coach did strictly on W/L. There is a lot more, in some cases. Yes, some schools, those that want to "keep the machine rolling", its just about W/L. But in others, they need to be that community builder. I believe that is why so many coaches JUMP at the openings for brand new schools. Excitement is very high, plus there is no built in expectation. He/She can really be whoever they want.

makes for a very tough situation, but eventually you gotta get the wins to stay right?

Of course. But decisions on coaches first few years, in those community rebuilding situations are not and should not be based on just the W/L. But yes, you can't win 2 games a year for 7 years at any program. Even if your students are model citizens and all get straight A's.
