This move aint on that one he aint going to screw a red state. .this is a power grab by senators. Niether base should close. P.i. is great for the hot humid training .cali great for high altitude .you cannot simulate both in the united states at 1 location. Hopefully they wont.when Clinton was in office we lost navybase .was a big blow.Penguin wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 1:53 pmI was already going to say that PI already has co-ed boot camp. Maybe not at the level desired, but they do already have a Company that does that. I won't say that it won't happen, given the fact that Lord Marmalade is still in charge, but anyone with more brains than a broken hammer would have a hard time justifying such a drastic move. Hopefully we won't have to worry about this kind of nonsense come November 4th.

To BEF and Fort, when it comes to politicians; I don't trust any of them. I never saw Charleston being shut down...
BEF, the air station would help, but I think you are correct. There are quite a few folks tied to the MCRD that if it closed, it would be a huge impact. Without the MCRD, do they keep the hospital open?
I know COVID has impacted things, but all the visitors who came to watch graduations would be gone completely.
Economy would take a huge impact. Outside of jobs related to MCRD, there are not a lot of other huge employers in the area are they?

Yall have rail in Beaufort? If that happens it would be a good place for a inland rail port and a manufacturer.Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 2:42 pmTo BEF and Fort, when it comes to politicians; I don't trust any of them. I never saw Charleston being shut down...

I think Beaufort missed that boat,....and those trains.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasper_Oc ... %20Georgia.
At full build-out, Jasper Ocean Terminal will cover 1,500 acres, with ten berths. It will be dredged to a 55 feet (17 m) depth, able to accommodate ships carrying as many as 20,000 TEU containers, with an annual capacity of seven million TEUs. Access to the facility will be via a new four lane highway connecting to US Route 17, and rail connections to both CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railway lines.
It looks like closest rail line to Beaufort is about 20 miles north-west.
Re: OT - But of interest to BEF, Penguin and the other low country folks
That terminal will be 20 years from now maybe more. Both the gpa and spa have 10 years of expansion left. Georgia and sc are in no hurry they have spent billions in the last few years.SF Band dad wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 11:58 pmI think Beaufort missed that boat,....and those trains.

On terminal expansion.
I was thinking a rail terminal like we have in greer and Dillon.
Ship to rail to inland .keeps trucks off the road while moving cargo to strategic staging areas.
But yeah the rail is a ways out.maybe steal some manufacturing jobs from Georgia and other areas of the south east.
Charleston is already at 55 ft. In march we open phase 1 of
A new terminal capable of handling those ships plus our cranes are a month out from being delivered.largest cranes in east coast. Two more phases to follow.
Plus frim what i am told that wull rekegate savanah to smaller ships due ti the narrow river dredging that far up
.may cause stability problems fir the ground buisness sit on akong its river.
It will be interesting to see but still quite a ways off.
We could open a rail hub in a year or so.
Ill retire l9ng before jasper is started i believe.

Nice comeback. This does sound like a radical left dream, making a coed base. I think I support this if we HAVE to have coed bases. I won't beat around the bush (npi), coed training just seems historically like a bad idea. I'm not agains equality of opportunity (I'm definitely against equality of outcome.) My main concern might be too abstract or macabre which is we have to protect female cadets from sexual abuse. Again if we have to have coed, I am in favor of starting from the ground up with a facility that does not already have skeletons in the closet. You can have the best boot camp in the world and still have an underbelly of abuse. However many chiefs are stirring the pot, the number one focus needs to be to honeypot sexual predators, identify them, kick them out and then crucify them.
Whatever needs to be done to put the fear of God into men of power who will sweep these kinds of offenses under the rug. Saddam's method of rooting out conspirators would be advisable. If you think this is a non-issue, I urge you to do your homework...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_as ... s_military
Keep our troops safe first. A woman should be able to consider herself absolutely bullet proof in our military and so far she is not...
"Another investigation found that one in five women in the United States Air Force reported having been sexually assaulted by service members."
That's just the Air Force^^^^^^

Re: OT - But of interest to BEF, Penguin and the other low country folks
Like I said, there's a reason Saddam and other dictators never suffer from conspiracy and inside insurgents! Pretty effective. The US government needs to go on the offense when it comes to sexual assault in the military. Give a specialized group of agents a task to weed out offenders and you'll see sexual assault cases go to near zero. Is it like a witch hunt? Maybe.....what would you call a hunt for these kinds of people?
