SC not big enough for 6 divisions. Would water down winning a championship imo..Big 16 did work. The greatest state championship games were some of the Big 16 title games

having more students is a huge advantage even though Wando has not figured that out
But how many times did 0-11 teams automatically get into the playoffs while 9-2 and 8-3 teams were left out? Saying that the Big 16 worked is blatantly false. While there were some great title games, there were also egregious errors in that format.
I don't know P...how about u tell us...from my understanding none of the 16 biggest schools in the state were left out..now div 2 may have been a different story....but why were they left out ?

I liked the big 16 with statewide cross bracketing....made for some great games u might not normally get to see and usually the two best teams met in the title game...

I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THE 9-1 BERKELEY STAGS TEAM NOT GOING TO PLAYOFFS IN 1972, WHEN ONLY THE WINNER OF CONFERENCE GOT AUTOMATIC AND THEN, WE GOT ELIMINATED FROM PLAYOFFS DUE TO POINTS, WHEN WE PLAYED A LOSING TEAM IN REGULAR SEASON, MORE IS BETTER THAN A 9-1 TEAM NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS.

the proof is in the pudding Pengy. The legendary big 16 title game match ups proved that it worked. Yes there were 0-11 teams that made the playoffs, but the final game match up is the one that counts. We will look back (and already do) on those days as the greatest of SC high school football

and agree with Mikey, the cross-bracketing was the key ingredient

Think about the nightmare all these AD’s are going to have .
Hey your girls bball team has been slaying people for 4 seasons and now our in 5A while your boys team sucks out loud and now is in 2a. So on a Friday night one is traveling to Sumter and the other one is traveling to chesnee . Yea their going to love that.

Sometimes it wonder if these people at the SCHSL just do stuff because they feel they have to , so it looks like their doing something . Never considering the people that effects the most.

There’s a story about JP Morgan and how he would hire people.

He would take them to breakfast and order for them. If they put salt or pepper on their food before trying it they wouldn’t get the job.

In other words don’t try to fix something without trying it first because it’s been working good for a reason.

Typical SCHSL. Every 3-4 years they feel the need to change things in an attempt to prove their relevance. Meanwhile when a crisis really demands their attention like this past year with Covid, they seemingly sat on their thumbs all summer with no particular plan, figuring that sooner or later somebody in Columbia would shut it all down. Then when they didn't, they took the easy road and punted all decision to the separate districts which created about the most uneven playing field ever seen.

This system is similar to A, AA, & AAA with each division splitting during the playoffs. Once the 32 teams in each division are determined, they are then split:

AAA Division 1 and A Division 2 {16 largest playoff teams/16 smaller playoff teams}

AA Division 1 and A Division 2

A Division 1 and A Division 2

What is different than having A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA, AAAAAA you may ask? Well if you had 16 teams in 6A and 32 teams in 5A, then all 16 teams in 6A would make the playoffs and those 16 teams will not be evenly divided between the geography of the state and travel for those teams will be extremely difficult. However, if you combine those two divisions and make them AAA, you have more flexibility in scheduling and only 32 of the 48 teams make the playoffs, so less likelihood of an 0-11 team getting in and a more deserving team being left out.

SF BANDDAD is good about mapping out where the teams would be located, but take a quick look at the 16 largest schools and it would be very difficult to make 4 four team regions, or even 2 eight team regions. So, a 48 team AAA divided come playoff time makes it more flexible and it will still extremely difficult to evenly divide them into regions due to their locations. Carolina Forrest is the most difficult factor. The only "BIG 16" team not in close proximity to another of the schools.

whatever they decide, there are too many schools in 5A currently

have your big 16, big 20 whatever, THEN divide evenly in your other classifications. 48, 52 schools in 5A is WAY too much

The schsl can't figure out a way to seed the playoffs 1-16, but want to do this? I remember a 9 win Newberry team having to travel to a 4 win Columbia team in the 2nd round of the playoffs one year because of how the playoffs are set up. It isn't that hard to seed the playoffs.
