Reb 74 I like your idea but I don't like it in the economic times like we are in now. I think your plan would work great if we weren't in such a bad time economically now. I just don't think it is fair to have the lower state teams come all the way up to Clemson or have all the upper state teams go to say the CItadel or to Coastal for that matter.
I am a traditional list when it comes to state title games and where they should be played. I wouldn't mind seeing if they wanted to move the title games around have it done like this. If there are 2 lower state teams have it at the citadel or coastal and if its 2 upper state teams host it at clemson wofford or furman but if it is any lower midlands and upperstate combo then it needs to be held in columbia
Where would you put the State Championships at?

Great idea to have a rotation for state title games.
Just some thoughts:
Love Coastal Carolina's stadium, but it's too small to host. Brooks Stadium only holds 9200.
Clemson did a great job hosting. I bet Goose Creek or Bluffton didn't mind making that trip. It's the state championship!
Furman, Wofford, and The Citadel have excellent venues. Only problem is they are FCS teams and if they go deep in the playoffs, their facilities may not be available.
Williams Brice is the most logical venue. However, their event staff and workers don't care. I believe they are state employees.
Get rid of the SCHSL. They are useless and outdated.

It ain't the employee is bad because they are state employees .i happen to know a couple 100 state employees that are the most productive employees in thier field.world wide at that.
Back to the topic.id love to see a 20k stadium dedicated to this .plus each week durring the season have 1 game on Friday 2 or three on Saturday tv match ups get the whole state involved .play Georgia North Carolina fla ect.there are a bunch of 1 to 2 million dollar baseball complexes holding tourneys every weekend football wouldn't be a stretch.

In all honesty, why not make it to where most of the state schools get to have their cake and eat it too?
For championship games, alternate the weekends between Columbia and Clemson - no recruiting advantage for either school, and both gets equal exposure (Alabama actually alternates each year, the school not hosting the Iron Bowl hosts "Super 6" championship weekend.
In regard to the small schools (Coastal, Benedict, SC State, Wofford, Citadel, etc.), why not allow them to host neutral site semifinal games similar to how they do in state basketball tournament? In many cases, SCHSL makes a lot of these schools drive the length of the state to play anyhow - esp. Class 4A. Allow fan bases to see places they've never seen before, take in the scenery and environment and have fun.
Or are we not allowed to do that any more? lol ... If not that, let's just allow the higher-seeded team to host the game at their home stadium.
But in regard to state title experiences, Clemson is second to none.

Re: Where would you put the State Championships at?
Well first off, Clemson donated the use of the stadium and the parking facilities for the event. I believe USC charged the HSL $80K just for the stadium, and then charged guests for parking and pocket that money. USC employees were very transactional. Collect your money and go. Clemson was pretty much loaded with student volunteers that seemed genuinely glad we were there. Being from one of the farthest reaches in the state to make it to the state game, I would much rather drive the 2 hours past Columbia to Death Valley where I felt wanted and appeciated.IndianFan09 wrote:I've never been to Death Valley for a State title game. Fair Enough.
My guess is Columbia/USC feels like they should have the game regardless based on logic so they feel they can get away with being less than helpful. Flat out at most the high school league should have to pay to run the scoreboard and the lights.
Does anyone know if they also charge for the use of Colonial Life for the basketball championships?(Those are the coolest by the way, all of you should go at some point).

USC feels like they run the show on everything. Remember, they wouldn't let the Carolina Panthers play here either. They are an arrogant bunch.IndianFan09 wrote:Fair Enough.

Would there be anything wrong with doing what we do in basketball? Having a middle ground for a state championship...for instance if a team from Spartanburg plays a team from Charleston then meet in Columbia...you could have three of four stadiums across the state selected and then once the teams are selected you choose the stadium... if Gaffney plays Byrnes for the title there is no reason they can't just play at Wofford's stadium...why do they need to drive down to Columbia?
