It's not like these guys just coach for a living. They are teachers too. There's five or six guys on that staff that are more valuable as teachers than coaches. That's the issue.
Whoever takes over that program, whether it's Brian Neal, Chris Deal, or someone completely fresh, the majority of the staff will be holdovers. You can't turn a staff over that quickly in high school football.

I think they have more than they need. getting rid of a few, changing positions they coach, better leadership, lots can be done.

Re: Emerald Vikings
ok, with all the Emerald talk (11 pages so far) I have a question?
When was Emerald good?
Do you have their record/results over the past 10-20 years, and could you post it if so
Do they have any state titles, ever been to Columbia, Turkey bowls?
I've also seen posted that the current coaching staff has been there 10 years. Has it been longer than that they were successful?

In 2014 and 2017, they made some deep playoff runs...but this coaching regime has never really had sustained success. A lot of wasted talent churning through that program. They are every bit as talented and fast as Chapman, just poorly coached and undisciplined.

Pretty sure Mac's been there longer, but this is all I could find. Mediocrity at its finest. He hangs his hats on total wins, but he's been coaching for 30+ years...he should have a ton of wins at this point in his career.
That 2018 team had absolutely no business being THAT bad.

Re: Emerald Vikings
not sure where my reply went but...
thanks for posting that info
Sounds like they need a creative play caller that can make use of the talent there, and stir up some excitement within the student body and around town.
Those guys are hard to find. I bet just about every fan on this site wishes they had a better play caller except DF, Chapman, and MB fans

I said as talented, as not good.OLDFART51 wrote:I saw Emerald and Chapman play. No way is Emerald as good as Chapman .
Emerald has tons of talent at the skill positions and they have a lot of size up front.
That school has several athletes that opt not to play football because they don't want to play for McMahon. It's a gold mine if you get the right person in there.

Re: Emerald Vikings
from 10-4(2017) to 3-18(2018) and then 1-10(2019), that's huge and indicative of a MAJOR problem
guess we will see if anyone cares at all

Re: Emerald Vikings
It's difficult to find a coach in the state who has done less with more than McMahon. Pretty much anyone in this area will tell you that they were loaded with talent in 2018 and coming off the 10-4 season in 2017 were expected to go far. They were even ranked #2 in the preseason poll! It's one thing to lose a game or two, but these guys kept losing and making the same mistakes and miscues every week. He stays around for 2019 and attempts to install a new offense that the kids were absolutely lost in all season. Scored just 90 points all year, turned the ball over 2+ times almost every game, and once again, no improvement at all from start to beginning of the season. The JV program was no better and also got manhandled by most teams they played. And yet the administration seems ok with it! Almost every issue with this program goes back to the coaching staff. At most places it would be a no-brainer to cut ties and get fresh blood in. I know it's easier said than done with politics/teaching positions/etc involved, but keeping the current staff around any longer is just gonna keep pushing them in a deeper hole.Onion Rings wrote:from 10-4(2017) to 3-18(2018) and then 1-10(2019), that's huge and indicative of a MAJOR problem
