McMahon is out.
He will be staying on as AD (for now), but he is stepping away from football.
I knew from the beginning that’d he’d never leave without having his fingerprints all over the person that replaces him.

Rumors swirling that Chris Deal will replace Tim McMahon.
Not sure how District 50 can stomach that hire.

McMahon staying on as AD insures that he'll get his guy.
District 50 got unlucky here. Now Emerald will essentially be forced to keep the majority of a lame duck coaching staff that includes McMahon's son. Wouldn't be surprised if Mac himself ends up coaching special teams or something over there.
Dysfunction at its finest.

We have our own issues at Greenwood but I really hate this for Emerald. I don't understand how a completely mediocre coach gets to choose "his guy". That usually only happens if your were a consistent winner. No Fly Zone wrote:McMahon staying on as AD insures that he'll get his guy.

Sparky will get it right over that Greenwood. That's as good of a hire as it gets.EmeraldCityEagle98 wrote:We have our own issues at Greenwood but I really hate this for Emerald. With Emerald, McMahon attempted to set up a coach-in-waiting situation with Chris Deal initially a few years back, but then some off the field stuff happened and Deal left for NC. Their plan was temporarily ruined. That whole thing with him being an assistant principal over at Westview is smoke and mirrors. That is Mac's guy and always has been. He'll do everything he can to have Deal slide into that role. It's a seamless transition into continued mediocrity.
There's a heck of a sports journalism story hidden in there somewhere.
Re: Emerald Vikings
What a joke if that happens. Surely their are some folks around Emerald that can weild some power over the AD, who failed miserably as a football coach, having free power to pick his own successor. A move that cements his son still having a place on staff. This isnt a family business. The folks at Emerald should demand better.

Unless Steve Glenn gets involved, Mac will have all the say in who replaces him.Deputy wrote:What a joke if that happens. And we all know Glenn doesn't give a hoot about Emerald football. He'll defer to Hudson in Greenwood's coaching search, but that's someone you can trust to make a strong hire. Mac...not so much.
We can hope than Damian Coleman has the stones to go toe-to-toe with Mac on the hire.

The name that should be coming up is a coach by the name of Tom Butler. He coached at Greenwood High School from 2004-2010. He also played for Greenwood High School. He is now the head coach of Great Falls High School, and took his team to the playoffs for the fist time in 5 years (this was his first year as their head coach). I have heard from a very reliable source that he is extremely interested in the job at Emerald High School. Personally i think he would take a mediocre team and bring a spark back to a program that needs it.
