Probably. He is getting what looks to be the right personnel together. I look for more kids to come out and participate this season also. Our numbers had gone down dramatically. No Fly Zone wrote:Is Liner calling his own plays on offense or is he hiring an OC?

I am all about extra curriculars and giving kids an "off the streets" outlet, but I feel like that program does have more negative impact than people realize.eagle93 wrote:Quite a few yes.No Fly Zone wrote:Are a lot of Greenwood players involved with Next Level Fitness?eagle93 wrote:Probably. The guy that runs it is not a coach at either high school for more than enough reasons. He does his best to let his participants know that he knows more than their coaches.
The ideals are on par with what Greenwood needs but if you're undermining the coaches at both schools with your "expertise" then that can cause plenty of problems.
Hoot has created a positive environment for teens while also creating quite a divisive culture within the programs. You see a lot of those athletes giving him credit over their own coaches because he has them convinced that's the case.
Re: Greenwood
That was mainly with Dan who didn't want the kids working with him. He's been doing this before Dan got there. Didn't hurt Gene's teams did it? Liner is on board with it as he knows Hoot from when Hoot was a player and he was a Greenwood assistant. No Fly Zone wrote:I am all about extra curriculars and giving kids an "off the streets" outlet, but I feel like that program does have more negative impact than people realize.eagle93 wrote:Quite a few yes.No Fly Zone wrote:Are a lot of Greenwood players involved with Next Level Fitness?eagle93 wrote:Probably. It wasn't nearly as big when Gene was there.eagle93 wrote:That was mainly with Dan who didn't want the kids working with him. He's been doing this before Dan got there. Not saying McMahon and Pippin were great coaches (because they certainly aren't) but their reservations about what goes on at NLF is more than justified.

It'll be fine. This keeps the inner city kids out of trouble. They need this positivity during the time they're away from the school and coaches. As a person who's seen some family and friends affected by poor decisions during down time, I see this as a positive. For some of these kids this is the only father figure they know of. Some, maybe even most traditional coaches aren't comfortable traveling into these certain neighborhoods. It's a good thing. He keeps them occupied and away from trouble for the most part. I commend his efforts. Who else is willing to do it?

Emerald had a coach that was in Phoenix Place, Country Homes, and the mill villages pulling those kids in. When he left, that program fell apart.eagle93 wrote:Who else is willing to do it?
I guess you're right. Hoot might be the only role model willing to go down there now, which is a huge concern if you're paying attention to what's happening in the streets of Greenwood.
If these coaches don't get into their community, they won't win big. You need those kids to win in the playoffs.
Re: Greenwood
Liner has hired some guys willing to go in there and do it. Mostly past players. Hoot is also a past player and his brother Cliff has also been asked to join in the efforts at Greenwood. No Fly Zone wrote:Emerald had a coach that was in Phoenix Place, Country Homes, and the mill villages pulling those kids in.
