It's WAY more important at GHS which is why McMahon has gotten away with being below average for the majority of his stay at Emerald.
I'm shocked that Dan Pippin is still at Greenwood, especially after Temple left for Abbeville. He's just rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.
We'll see what happens the rest of the way.

13-12 loss to a very bad Mid-Carolina team...this program has completely fallen off.
The offense is absolutely atrocious. The turnovers and the untimely penalties are consistent.
Bad coaching.
McMahon needs to go.

Heard Emerald's JVs handled Newberry's with ease.
I think we'll see the complete opposite on Friday night. Wouldn't be shocked if Newberry won by three scores.

Re: Emerald Vikings
Hard to define anything by a JV score these days. With the 8 qtr rule being abolished you really cant get a handle on how coaches handle the JV team. Some try to keep as many 10th graders down to get reps as much as they can. Others feel they need some of the better 10th graders on the sidelines on Friday in case of injury. It just isnt the indicator it might used to be.

I agree. If this wasn't the last straw, is there a last straw? Mid Carolina has nothing, nothing at all.No Fly Zone wrote:13-12 loss to a very bad Mid-Carolina team...this program has completely fallen off.

Re: Emerald Vikings
McMahon continues to make excuses.
His team is 1-6 and Clinton is the only team left on the schedule that they could beat.
All of his talk about the Vikings finally finding their offensive identity. You're seven games into the season and you're just now figuring this out?
One of the worst coached teams in 3A football, heck probably the whole state at any level. Gotta feel bad for the kids on that team. I hope the parents push for a new coach in 2020.

Players love Neal. Would like to see him get this job.

Neal is by far the most deserving in-house candidate.viking4life wrote:Players love Neal. Would like to see him get this job.
What you have to worry about with Emerald is the holdovers. McMahon tends to run off all the good young coaches that come through there (or they move on to better opportunities) and he hangs on to "his" guys that have similar philosophies because they absolutely will not challenge him. Pippin has similar faults -- they are arrogant to a fault, using their experience as an excuse even in failure.
Here's the problem: Mac has his friend and former OFFENSIVE coordinator running his defense. That makes no sense. He has his son on his staff. He also has several coaches that "specialize" in offensive line coaching other position groups. It's a mess over there.
If Neal does get that job, I hope he brings in a lot coaches that he wants and not coaches that Mac basically forces on him.

Re: Emerald Vikings
tough situation to be named the head coach and have to keep the existing staff. Not impossible because they can be trained, but not ideal
Re: Emerald Vikings
Need to clear house. But not always possible in high school as often in situations like this as coaches limit what can be done if they wont give up teaching positions. But it puts the next coach in a bind as he has to deal with previous staff that were a part of the losing, and the jealousy coming from some that no doubt wanted the job.
