It is the start of the season and everyone is still undefeated

No fretting about Northwestern being in 4A......it is what it is. You can only play the games that are scheduled.

At the Football City USA jamboree, South Pointe handled Olympic (Charlotte NC), Byrnes blew out Rock Hill (not surpisingly).

Now as to Dutch Fork vs Northwestern. I was not there but listened on the radio.

My quick and completely uneducated analysis was the game was very evenly matched.

Northwestern has a new qb this season. He is a big 10th grader and will get better, bigger, and stronger. The only real mistake made was a miscommunication on a play that resulted in a fumble that Dutch Fork returned for a touchdown. Final after two periods of play was DF 21 NW 10.

When it comes to jamboree and non-conference games, wins/losses really don't matter expect for fans to argue about and coaches to use to improve their team.

I think we have a pretty good team this year and should definitely make a run deep in the playoffs.

Playing the games "on paper" is certainly not playing them "on the field", but "on paper", it sure looks like the 4A Upper State will run through Football City USA (South Pointe or Northwestern).

As for 5A, it looks like the traditional power teams will fight it out again.
Upper State: Spartanburg, Gaffney, Byrnes, Dorman?.....someone else?
Lower State: Dutch Fork, Fort Dorchester.....someone else?

Enjoy the games for what they are......HIGH SCHOOL kids playing. Be true to your school. Have fun with the people around you at the games. Win with class. Lose with class.

I thought it was a great line! There're not many of my contributions that are all that serious and this certainly isn't one of them.

My complete removal of Byrnes from the list with Woodmont as their replacement should be all the indication anyone needs.

Hell, I felt like a bit of a homer putting Dorman at #10. Speaking of homers, there is one Viking that seems to dismiss this whole list simply because the Vikes aren't my number 1 or number 2 pick. Sorry folks, but until you play your first game, I'm not going to kick the reigning #1 and #2 teams to the curb.

Byrnes will have a better year than the Cavs I would say they are a solid #6 if I'm being honest.

I know one Viking who has staked his reputation on the claim that Spartanburg will defeat both Dutch Fork and Gaffney at least 1 time if not 2. But let's just give him one. I don't like to put anyone's feet in the fire. But if they're going to place them there, I don't mind holding them.

Spartanburg under Hodge in his third year has a lot of expectations riding on him.

They very nearly lost to Dorman and then lost to Gaffney. The next logical goal is to get to state.

What will be interesting to see is if the Vikes can knock off DF. SPV95 is all in. We’re taking bets. He has stated the the Vikes should be ranked 1st and thus confesses that he is logically backed into a corner where he must defend the inference that the Vikes will defeat DF and Gaffney.

Spartanburg's defense will have to get better to win both of those games. Gaffney hung 50+ on them in the play offs and DF was up 42-0 in the third, when Knotts called off the dogs last season. Like it or not...defense still wins championships. Fort D and Gaffney held DF to 21 and 19 respectively. Not Typical DF Offensive Output. Defense is not glamourous but it gets the job done.

DFOLDMAN just to correct you Dutch Fork didn’t put 42 on us by 3rd quarter. Spartanburg was only team not to have DF score 40. The final score was 36-13.
