It is almost common practice now in the areas of SC where you have multiple high schools clustered together in the bigger areas like Greenville. Spartanburg, Columbia, and Charleston. And most of the programs aren’t shy about it. Just the way the game is played these days.
I'd completely disagree that it's just the way the game is played or not a big deal. Have been around football in upstate for a long time and nobody does it like Tate did (maybe Greenville but they have district school choice). At one point Wren had 5 QBs in a row who were transfers. It's sad for kids who grow up in the community and never get a chance. We had a kid come play QB at Daniel who moved from Wren and had been there all his life because Tate only wanted to bring in QBs, not develop what he has. Kid ended up all-state starting on a 12-1 team. Not to mention per SCHSL that recruiting is cheating, so if you like having to cheat to win rather than take pride in what your community gives you, yeah he's your coach.
And don't even get me started on him and the SRO at Wren... Story for another day..
