This is why the points system was done away with. Everybody and their brother was searching for a duck.
Big 16 winning was 4.5 win and 3.5 losing
4A winning was 4.0 win and 3.0 loss
4A non winning was 3.0 win and 2.0 loss
3A winning was 3.0 win and 2.0 loss
3A non winning was 2.0 win and 1.0 loss
A modified point system that focused more on wins and punished a loss more, could make the non-region games more important and make it worth something. Also, all teams should play the same number of region games even if it means cross schedules between regions. Like the SEC West teams play everyone in the West and 3 games against the east. So if Region 1 plays 7 Region Games, all the other Regions play 7 regions games, even if Region 5 and Region 4 have to cross schedule a game or two per team.
Quickly looking, something like this for points:
5A winning record ......5.0 for win and .....2.5 for loss
5A losing record ........4.0 for win and .....2.0 for loss
4A winning record ......3.0 for win and .....1.5 for loss
4A losing record ........2.0 for win and .....1.0 for loss
No system is perfect and some years, one Region may have three teams fighting for the region title and the next year only one team from that same region has a winning record. You can't predict that nor can you "work around" that possibility. So, give the REGION CHAMPS 3.0 points and the RUNNER UP 1.5 points, but seed everyone based on their points. If you play 11 games, count 9 games and have one less week of playoffs. If you play 10 games, more teams get in the playoffs and you end up with some blow out games in the first round. Maybe instead of 32 teams, you go with 24 teams and give the top seeds a bye week. 2-9 teams should not be in the playoffs.
There are many ideas that deserve some serious contemplation and testing and tweaking. I would love to get a few folks together and exchange ideas, merge thoughts and see what happens. Then after we work out re-alignment, we can take on WORLD PEACE.
