End of Season
Re: End of Season
I appreciate your support Seahawk. We have been bitter rivals for 60 years but when it comes down to it the kids are the ones suffering. Yes we alumni and fans want to win. Who doesn’t? Nobody likes to lose. The kids are missing out on a chance to be winners which teaches them to be winners in life. Also some are missing a chance at a free education and playing on Saturday’s.

Now I know nothing about the inner workings of the hiring process for a head coach at Conway High. But I do know this. If Tom Knotts did indeed want that job. Everyone from the principal, the AD, the search committee, and anyone slightly involved in the hiring process should be fired. That act alone should tell every parent in Conway that hiring the absolute best person, in any position, to better their children is not the first priority.

Re: End of Season
What I heard from the booster club president at the time was Knotts stated on his application that he wanted to coach football only with no teaching or administrative duties. In Horry County the AD can’t be the football coach anyway. They are separate jobs. I was told that’s the reason they didn’t pursue him but I’m confident there was contact at least because I did hear from one other person that he might be coming to Conway. In high school it’s almost impossible to pay the football coach big money without tying it to a district position. However if they wanted it bad enough there’s way around that. I know Coach Terry only teaches like two periods then free the rest of the day. Mickey Wilson at MB is a PE teacher but he has an assistant if you know what I mean. All that said it was pretty much a rigged coaching search after what happened to Coach Jordan.
Re: End of Season
Absolutely! I agree 100%. One other thing going against us at the time was we only had an interim AD and a principal that didn’t care for sports and it showed. We have an new AD Anthony Carroll that I believe will do a great job and wants to build an athletic dynasty and win in every sport. A new principal also now soBlister wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 8:54 pmNow I know nothing about the inner workings of the hiring process for a head coach at Conway High. But I do know this. Someone mentioned Rock Hill. What y’all hearing about the RoHi Bearcats job?
Also on the York County beat is Rob McNeeley safe at Fort Mill?
Are Strait Herron and Bobby Carroll tired of getting beat at the charter school?

Re: End of Season
Why is there a struggle at Fort Mill? Great location and at one time I was thinking they were a competitive team.
Re: End of Season
As much as I love watching high school football the end of the season can't come quick enough in North Augusta. Lot of things going on.
Re: End of Season
Not a lot of great athletes. Recently added a 3rd HS. Split limited talent even further. It’s tough to win in York County. Always a battle. Everybody is pretty good. No clueless, pitiful teams here.

Re: End of Season
It is so obvious in some counties that athletics are nothing but a bother to them, while in other counties, it is a MAJOR focal point. Now in some counties, it can be divided even in the county down to the districts... and in the case of Greenville County, which only has one school district, as a whole Greenville County doesn't seem to stress athletics (J L Mann, Wade Hampton, Eastside as examples) but some of the schools are usually competitive.. Greenville, Greer and Hillcrest.
Spartanburg County has multiple districts and athletics are very important in all of them. Multiple state champions in various sports and the teams always seem to be at least competitive for the most part, year in and year out. It seems that at least one state championship team comes from Spartanburg County in Football, Baseball, Basketball or Softball most every year.
I guess it comes back to the folks in charge and their focus and their willingness to go after the good coaches..... From the posts, it seems that is what happened at Conway. Just happened that at this point in time at the end of Coach Jordan's career, the ones in charge thought of athletics, at least football, as a bother.
