Re: End of Season
At the time in Conway the tensions were very high. The community was angry and split racially...again. Due to the incident that led to Jordan's dismissal.Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 2:15 pmIt is so obvious in some counties that athletics are nothing but a bother to them, while in other counties, it is a MAJOR focal point. Now in some counties, it can be divided even in the county down to the districts... and in the case of Greenville County, which only has one school district, as a whole Greenville County doesn't seem to stress athletics (J L Mann, Wade Hampton, Eastside as examples) but some of the schools are usually competitive.. Greenville, Greer and Hillcrest.
Spartanburg County has multiple districts and athletics are very important in all of them. Multiple state champions in various sports and the teams always seem to be at least competitive for the most part, year in and year out. It seems that at least one state championship team comes from Spartanburg County in Football, Baseball, Basketball or Softball most every year.
I guess it comes back to the folks in charge and their focus and their willingness to go after the good coaches..... From the posts, it seems that is what happened at Conway. Just happened that at this point in time at the end of Coach Jordan's career, the ones in charge thought of athletics, at least football, as a bother.
Coach Terry was an assistant on or played on ALL the great Conway teams .. for the most part while Coach Jordan was there. He was the obvious choice. Hire an assistant from a Hall of fame coaches staff. Been the OC....This has happened before and seen as a move of an admin that cared about winning and not going outside to hire. Coach Terry deserved his shot!

74 it’s not that it’s a bother. Athletics are very important at Conway especially football as you know. We have always been a contender most years and could have several titles. The problem at Conway is politics where some around the program want to win but do it with Conway alumni. That’s ok in some instances and Coach Jordan was a great one. Problem now is Mickey Wilson is the only native son that qualifies and I think that ship has sailed. Mickey wanted the job at one time when Jordan retired but he’s too entrenched at MB now to come home. All the other sports is the same way and while some have done well others haven’t. I do like the new baseball coach that took Anthony Carroll’s place who is the new AD. He hired former Atlanta Braves pitcher Billy Sylvester. An outsider is needed to change the culture and bring a different attitude to the football program. That remains to be seen but I know we can’t keep going on the road we are now.

Time to move on!
Re: End of Season
Heading into week 10, any clarity about what could or should happen?
Re: End of Season
Still looking to hear some rumors on Conway’s end but nothing yet. With only one week to go we should hopefully start hearing about possible changes. After beating just a one win Socastee team the week before there was a pretty good crowd for homecoming Friday night. The community wants winning football back. It’s been 5 years and they’re hungry. Put a good product on the field and the money will flow like water. Keep with the status quo and struggle to finance the athletic department. Somebody has some tough decisions to make. The choice is theirs.
Re: End of Season
I am sure there will be a few quickly then more after the playoffs.

I don’t like having to say such things but unfortunately it’s necessary. We shouldn’t be in this situation but we are.

Re: End of Season
Think Dorman game was a big win for Coach Shaw.
Definitely agree with RH & BS .
I know both coaches got support on administration level but Dorman and Greer should be on list also.
