Re: Tad Dubose hired as Emerald's Head Coach
I really don't understand Emerald. Dating back to their days in 4A, they had as much size, speed, talent as anybody, but yet they underwhem year after year. Doesn't seem to matter who the staff is. I saw a comment about how tough the region is, and that seems to carry through everyone. Clinton is good, Chapman is good (even though I see the glory days coming to an end). But Emerald, Union, Woodruff, and Broome, are all ranked below 35th in defense in 3A. There are only 45 teams. But Emerald is a mystery. Is it the administration? Lack of community support? Coaching staff? They should be much better than they are. Almost playing lately like they have just packed it in and just wanting the season over.

Tad will get them together
Emerald was fantastic in 2014 then McMahon ran a few really good young coaches outta there because he was setting things up for his son to take over. The assistants are now highly successful coordinators at college programs and other schools around the country.
Dubose got rid of Mac Jr quickly which is the best thing he could’ve done
There’s a gang banging culture in GWD and Abbeville. You can’t escape it. But that isn’t the reason why they are not competitive. They need innovation on offense, not the A-Bone that is being taught to those kids as soon as they can put pads on. You can’t emulate what Abbeville does. They have to find their own identity or it’ll never work.

I definitely understand you can't emulate abbeville in every way possible...You also can't stop gang banging in the community. Believe me we have 5 or 6 that walk around at the game every Friday with their heart on the field looking. But they made choices they can't fix. As far as the offense I attended Greenwood game Friday night against Greenville it's nothing Liner doing there but establishing a physical culture. They may have 5 plays at Greenwood High it's a drive the ball with time management offense. Hell abbeville Abone throws the ball more. Definitely not excuses abbeville community is very football supportive hands down from Rec league to the high school. That's the difference. These kids may not have the best facilities or best looking field but I promise you this they all Committed to Atown Football in their Heart. First off season was interrupted by Covid but Tad will get it right. I'll be at Emerald game Friday night against UnionNo Fly Zone wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 12:05 pmExcuses, excusesAtown97 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 1:55 pmThe Mentality is so different at Emerald. He has way more than 5 plays. No need to get fancy if they can't stop the option. They have thrown more in some other games.Atown97 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 11:05 pmI definitely understand you can't emulate abbeville in every way possible...You also can't stop gang banging in the community. I'm sorry I'm not throwing a slight at Greenwood. I'm just merely stating exactly what you just said. Abbeville does what works if the team can't stop it why change. But you have to establish a culture of winning and hard work.eagle93 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 11:14 pmHe has way more than 5 plays. No need to get fancy if they can't stop the option. I agree completely on what you said about physicality. Liner definitely brought that back to Greenwood.Atown97 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 7:36 amI'm sorry I'm not throwing a slight at Greenwood. so give this guy a few more years, is that the opinion of Emerald people?
Re: Tad Dubose hired as Emerald's Head Coach
Possibly. Not sure how much they really care. Figure last year was a pass because of Covid, but one figured you would at least see improvement this year. Woodruff doesn't have much of a defense. When you can't put up numbers against them, something is wrong.

I see this experiment hasn't really worked out. You can't change that program with more nepotism and good ole boys on the coaching staff. Heard a lot about low numbers/turnout. That starts up top. I think Tad is a great man, but not a great fit at Emerald.
Sounds like Emerald is going back to the spread? Did they hire a new OC to run this scheme?

Re: Tad Dubose hired as Emerald's Head Coach
Emerald is losing a lot of pretty good skill kids by the looks of their commitments.
They've got a couple really big kids up front, but I'm worried they've lost too much to be consistently competitive on offense.
