Old lion that 88 team was an all time great team. Started 1-4 if I remember and then caught magic in a bottle and rolled off 9 straight before falling in the championship game.
The western 3a that year had no weak teams. A lot different from today. People will laugh at this but Pickens west oak westside Seneca were the tough that year extremely tough.
It seemed like ever game that year came down to the last play even the losses. The games against Camden and Clinton were unbelievable . I’ve never seen more people in old Singleton than the upstate that year vs the Red Devils.
That team and the 85 rejects team got the ball rolling . It made everyone around there hungry to succeed. And now look at the last 30 years . Amazing stuff even with a ten year run of unmet expectations.

Yeah, I miss that old stadium. The new one is nice but guess cause I'm old and played on the old field, I prefer the old field. You are correct that 85 squad got things rolling. The energy in stadium when we finally beat Clinton is something I will never forget. Very proud of this years team for carrying on the winning tradition. Coach Fru seems to have them on right path and he learned from the best. Interesting to learn coach Sitterle is at Pickens now as O-line coach and OC, I believe.

Sitterle is at Pickens?....hhmmm. Smith has brought back Tweito, I believe...that was probably the last time the Flamers had winning records under Glassy Mountain when he was HC...now Sittele. The current HC there seems like is bent on righting the ship there in Pickens. They will sort out the X's and O's, just need some jimmys and joes. Looks like a brighter future for The Blue Flame too along with the Lions. Might as well at throw in well wishes to Liberty as well and as much as it pains me....ugh... Greasley...I mean Easley...haha.
