Re: Emerald Vikings
Vikings finish 1-9, sadly riding a 9 game losing streak
Shutout again as well...
This team was completely lost offensively all season. McMahon needs to do what’s right and step away.

Re: Emerald Vikings
Another underwhelming season. And they have size, and have some talent. Certainly not in a Chapman class of talent like they had last year, but that team has zero business only winning one game. Not sure who coaches the running backs, but apparently ball security is not a point of emphasis.

Too many inner city kids with too many problems. The kids there are not committed to anything.Deputy wrote:Why is Aiken such a graveyard? I haven't seen them often, but apparent when I have that they have talent. They have been through quite a few coaches down there. What is the issue that keeps them from being competitive?
Re: Emerald Vikings
Don't take for granted that Neal will always be available as an assistant coach. Neal will be a head coach again very soon, his abilities are well known in the coaching circles. The problem with Emerald is the head coach does not know how to connect, motivate and communicate with these players. Neal had the same problem at McCormick when he took that job and you see how well he handled that. If they want to keep Neal they better grab him up, the window won't be open much longer.viking4life wrote:If I were coach, I would keep Neal. I hear young McMahon, Miller and the coach from NC are knowledgeable but have ZERO connection with the players. Maybe Wright, dont know much about him. The young coach, Childress is liked. Other than that, all are expendable. Sorrow is a good coach too I hear.
Re: Emerald Vikings
I guess Neal is a decent coach, but for the life of me I dont know why some of you Emerald folks are so desperate to make him head coach. First off, never wise to promote off of a losing staff. When that happens one also ends up keeping the majority of that same staff that they are close too. Emerald had the talent to win state in 18. Didnt have quite that same talent this yeat, but not sure how they could only win one game. And problems on both sides of the ball. Massive offensive line, that doesnt play. Apparently ball security is an afterthought of the coaching staff. Defensive backfield didnt have a clue. Emerald has talent, but that team needs totally new voices.
Re: Emerald Vikings
Emerald scored a grand total of 90(!) points this year. According to Maxpreps, that ties them with Pelion for third worst offensive output of all AAA teams this year.

I don't know the exact number, but I'm pretty sure they were also towards rock bottom in turnover margin as well. Did they have a game without a turnover?
This program needs to hit a giant reset button and clean house.

That's a difficult thing to fix, but the right voice (coach) can change a program's culture.spectator wrote:Too many inner city kids with too many problems. The kids there are not committed to anything.
Emerald had a young coach a few years back that was down in the rough areas pulling kids out of there consistently. He's not there anymore, not sure where he winded up. They were very successful with a lot of those kinds of kids when they made that run in 2014. McMahon and most, if not all, of his current staff can't reach those same kids in the same ways. Some guys in the coaching profession just have the "it" factor. They can reach a lot of the kids that are deemed unreachable.

You are apparently not aware of what Neal did at McCormick.Deputy wrote:I guess Neal is a decent coach, but for the life of me I dont know why some of you Emerald folks are so desperate to make him head coach.
