Historically PeeDee and Columbia area 4A teams have struggled mightily come playoff time (Dutch Fork got a fortunate draw last year with Byrnes and Gaffney being in the same side of the bracket) Time and time again an 11-0 or 10-1 team from the PeeDee or Columbia area gets beat by a team from the upper state that had a 7-4 or 8-3 regular season (that finished 3rd in their region). The reality is a Gaffney, Spartanburg, or South Pointe, as bad as they may look against Byrnes or Northwestern, they are probably sitting with an 11-0 or 10-1 type of record if they are NOT in Region 2 or 3. The biggest difference is speed. Go to the South Florence vs. Stratford game, then go to Northwestern vs. South Pointe, its like going from FCS football to FBS football. Goose Creek is the exception, coach Reedy has done a great job down there using size to an advantage to compete and beat many upper state teams, but GC is just so big. Most other teams don't have that advantage.
I am very pleased with our team's performance this year. We have good athleticism across the board, and our coaches have done a phenomenal job with the team. But I have no illusions about what we face in the playoffs. I was in attendance in 2009 the last time SF traveled to Rock Hill D3 stadium to face-off against Northwestern. This is not the same SF team that gave up 42 points to "Worley & Company" in the first quarter.

I fully understand that we won't get too much respect until we demonstrate that we can sustain this level of competitiveness. I'm sooooooo looking forward to the next couple of years here. :D

Both of the rankings lists I looked at have Gaffney at #12, although the teams above and below them shift around. It's all very subjective.
Fair enough.

Well your either one or two things, either your a Gaffney fan who pissed off your team will be ranked lower than us  OR a NW/GC bandwaggoner who just wants to talk trash  . From your previous post, you must be another Gaffney fan

Hold up! Don't lump all Gaffney fans as pissed off about SF. I have respect for SF and I just stated that I think we should be included in the second tier of teams, I didn't say anything about replacing any of the teams.

Chief, I was playin around about the Gaffney comment, I have tremendous respect for y'all and yes Gaffney should always be in the conversation as one of the top teams in the state.

We were wondering when you guys would show up on the boards. I even went to Hillcrest's facebook page and posted about this site. Usually when teams start winning you'll get a new trickle of their fans to the board. Welcome and a big congrats on your season this year. It's absolutely stunning!

I have to admit that I skipped your game with Dorman this year to go watch Byrnes and Northwestern play. A friend of mine told me before hand that you guys were for real this year and it would be a game not to be missed. He wasn't kidding! I am hearing that you'll graduate a lot of players this year and that next years team might struggle. Not to mention you showed up on everybody's radar in a big way so it will be interesting to see how the team handles it's new success. I have a feeling your boys will do just fine and I believe as teams start to fall away in the post season you'll even pick up some more fans rooting for you guys this year. I would imagine Greenwood fans are dealing with mixed feelings. On the one hand you always want better competition and more exciting games but not at the cost of more losses, right?

Anyway, we weren't sure any Hillcrest fans would register so we didn't have a group set up for you yet. I went ahead and set that up. Check the color of your screen name and let me know if you wanna change it to a different shade of red. And post some links from here on your facebook page or whatever and let the other Ram fans know about us.

Peace!

Well, this season has been great so far. Coach Porter has gotten the guys to really "buy into" the system and believe. It has been building for a few years now and the addition of new coaches at key positions have made a world of difference. We won our first Region championship last week (first time in school history).

As for next year, we should still be pretty good. We do have several key players graduating (one Shrine Bowl player, one North/South player, and a couple of pure athletes), but we have some really good young talent headed to varsity over the next couple of years. So, things are still looking up.

Thanks for welcoming us to the site... Good luck to everyone!

Yeah, we are expanding again.....

Stay with us and get involved. If you have questions about anything, we'd be glad to help. The projections have to look good for the Rams. I got to admit, if I had posted my first projections back in August saying Hillcrest would be a #3 or maybe even a #2 seed, most folks would have called 911 to come pick up the crazy dude!

However, with a win by North Augusta on Friday and a loss by AAA Berkeley, you could be looking at HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE all the way to the State Title Game. A sample of how the brackets could look....

1 Byrnes
16 Rock Hill

8 Boiling Springs
9 Lexington

4 Spring Valley
13 Mauldin

5 Dutch Fork
12 Dorman
===========================================
2 Hillcrest
15 Ashley Ridge

7 Sumter
10 Fort Dorchester

3 Summerville
14 Spartanburg

6 Gaffney
11 Wando

IF, and that is the huge word here, IF they fell out this way...

I see you beating Ashley Ridge in week one

Probably playing Fort Dorchester in week two and if you won..

Week three would have either Summerville or Gaffney coming to you on the Friday after Thanksgiving! Do you think you could manage to fill the stadium?

I still can't decide which side of the bracket looks scarier. Other than the Rebels, I think Spring Valley, Dorman, Boiling Springs and Mauldin are all extremely dangerous teams(Even for Byrnes). But the Bottom half has Hillcrest, Summerville, Gaffney, and Spartanburg. Should be a dog fight all the way to State. It's a great time to be a high school football fan in South Carolina!
