Its the eve of one of the biggest if not the biggest paying event in dirt late model racing this year. Mansfield Speedway in Mansfield Ohio will host the Dirt Million. The Dirt Million is a race where the fans can buy tickets, merchandise, tires, fuel, pit passes and other stuff to help their driver get into the main event. You would think that the race would pay a million to win but that hasn't been the case in the inaugural event and this years event. The payout for last years race was freaking crazy top heavy with the winner Earl Pearson Jr taking home over 200K for winning the race. This year the winner will take home 30% of the winnings and right now they are showing that the total purse is over 308K and could climb to well over 400K by the start of the main event Saturday night. Here is the link to the website for the dirt million https://www.dirtmillion.com/ so you can see what the break down of the payout will be and the other things this race has to offer.

Here is the link to the Lucas Oil series website and their story on the upcoming race https://lucasdirt.com/news/latest-news/ ... rt-million.

This race was very exciting last year and I look for this year to be just as crazy and with the news that Chris Smokey Madden will not be able to race this weekend due to a freak accident injury and surgery tonight at the Ohio State University Hospital. I had Madden as the favorite going into this weekend as he was the hottest driver in the country after winning the last 3 weekends in a row. My drivers to watch is pretty wide as you have the Lucas Oil championship leader Superman Jonathan Davenport, The Newport Nightmare Jimmy Owens, Devin Moran, The New Deal Hudson O'neal, Black Sunshine Scott Bloomquist, and the World of Outlaws point leader Brandon Sheppard that will be in the house and will be strong competition oh and lets not forget the Hurricane Earl Pearson Jr last years winner in the Ronnie Stuckey Masterbuilt House Car will also be there looking to be make it back to back Dirt Million winner

Last Saturday night the World of Outlaws went to Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal PA and ran a 10K to win show that saw a fierce battle for the win between Mason Ziegler and Ricky Weiss. Here is the link to that race recap from the world of outlaws website https://www.worldofoutlaws.com/latemode ... -speedway/

If you go to the link watch the video recap it shows how crazy the battle for the lead was. The racing for the world of outlaws has been dominated this year by Brandon Sheppard with him winning 16 races and if he hits victory lane 2 more times he will tie the record for most wins in a season that was set by Josh Richards back in the early 2000's.

OH BOY tonight is the start of the Dirt Million weekend and from what I am seeing and hearing around different places that it is raining at the track now with a big storm to come through and should be clear right about the time to open the gates for spectators and haulers to go in and get ready to race. If the storm is as big as I have heard they may not get any racing in tonight or if they do it will be a late late night

Night 1 of 3 for the Dirt Million is upon us and everybody is worried about how the track will handle the racing tonight with the rain that has been in the area all week a the couple of storms that rolled through earlier in the day. The track was bad fast coming out of hot laps but due to the rain the track had started to get rough after hot laps and qualifying and that had drivers just a little worried about how they would set the cars up for the heats and features. Hot laps and qualifying would be sorted by which main the drivers would be running tonight. The drivers in Duel #1 would hot lap and qualify together and the drivers in Duel #2 would do the same. Duel 1 would see Brandon Sheppard take the fast time and overall fast time award with a time of 16.645 and Duel 2 would see Chase Junghans take the honors with a time of 16.847.

Heat line ups are as follows

Heat 1
Brandon Sheppard-Josh Richards
Tim McCreadie-Brian Shirley
Greg Satterlee-Shannon Buckingham
Kent Robinson-Missler
Matt Irey-Scott0R

Heat 2
Mike Norris-Jared Landers
Darrel Lanigan-Billy Moyer Jr
Tyler Erb-Max Blair
Cory Gundaker-Donald McIntosh
Chance

Heat 3
Scott Bloomquist-Doug Drown
Rick Eckert-Earl Pearson Jr
Dennis Erb-Miller
Mike Benedum-Scott1st
Dohm

Dual 2 Heat 1
Chase Junghans-Mike Marlar
Dale McDowell-Brandon Overton
Chris Ferguson-Stormy Scott
Scott4s-Angelicchio
Bee-Hess

Heat 2
Jimmy Owens-Kyle Bronson
Jonathan Davenport-Billy Moyer
Steve Casebolt-Shane Clanton
Boom Briggs-Mason Ziegler
Sabo

Heat 3
Hudson Oneal-Ricky Weiss
Devin Moran-Bobby Pierce
Shannon Babb-Eddie Carrier Jr
Oakes-Hensley
Markham

Now that the line ups have been posted and if you notice some of the drivers are listed by last name and car number because I couldn't read the writing on the picture that sent to me by a buddy of mine that is actually at the track and I also tried to find first names by looking on lucas oil twitter and couldn't find anything either. So that is the way that the line ups are posted. The heat races were pretty freaking awesome and the ruts and holes had pretty much smoothed over after the couple of heat races had been run. Heat 1 is on the track and it saw a pretty good battle for the lead til about the half way point when Josh Richards got by Sheppard and went on to get the win. Heat 1 would see Richards, Sheppard, McCreadie, and Satterlee all transfer to the Duel #1 feature. With the win Josh Richards would start the Duel in the 3rd position and Brandon Sheppard would be ride beside him in the 4th starting spot. Heat 2 would see Mike Norris get the win followed by Lanigan, Tyler Erb, and Cory Gundaker. Mike Norris will start the main event in the 2nd position and Darrel Lanigan would start it in the 6th position. Heat 3 would see Scott Bloomquist take the win followed by Dennis Erb Jr, Rick Eckert, and Earl Pearson Jr. Scott Bloomquist would be on the pole for Duel #1 and Dennis Erb Jr would start 5th.

Duel 2 Heat 1 would see Mike Marlar claim the top spot followed by Chase Junghans, Dale McDowell, and Chris Ferguson. Mike Marlar and Chase Junghans would battle side by side for the entire race with Marlar edging him out at the strip. With the heat win that would allow Marlar to start on the pole for Duel 2 with Junghans starting in the 6th position. Heat 2 would see the Superman fly around the track and totally dominate the heat race followed by Kyle Bronson, Jimmy Owens, Billy Moyer, and Steve Casebolt. With the win Superman would start 3rd in the Duel with Kyle Bronson starting right beside him in the 4th spot. Heat 3 would be on the track next and would see the Canadian Mud Slinger Ricky Weiss grab the win over Bobby Pierce, Hudson Oneal, and Devin Moran. The win would put Weiss on the outside pole and Pierce would start 5th.

The B mains would be would be up next and they would put on some of the best racing of the evening so far. Billy Moyer Jr would take the win and Kent Robinson would also transfer into Duel #1. The fight for the final transfer spots for Duel #2 would put on the best race as Shane Clanton would edge out Stormy Scott at the line after a fierce battle in the closing laps.

Duel 1 line up is showing some strong contenders in it.

Duel 1
Scott Bloomquist-Mike Norris
Josh Richards-Brandon Sheppard
Dennis Erb-Darrel Lanigan
Tim McCreadie-Tyler Erb
Rick Eckert-Greg Satterlee
Cory Gundaker-Earl Pearson Jr
Shannon Buckingham-Jared Landers
Doug Drown-Brian Shirley
Max Blair-Mike Benedum
Billy Moyer JR-Kent Robinson

Duel 2 Line Up
Mike Marlar-Ricky Weiss
Jonathan Davenport-Kyle Bronson
Bobby Pierce-Chase Junghans
Dale McDowell-Jimmy Owens
Hudson Oneal-Chris Ferguson
Billy Moyer-Devin Moran
Brandon Overton-Steve Casebolt
Shannon Babb-Scott4s
Mason Ziegler-Eddie Carrier Jr
Shane Clanton-Stormy Scott

Now that the line ups are posted look at those line ups and just imagine trying to get around some of those names. Duel 1 the pole sitter has over 600 career wins and is one of the badest mofo's on the planet inside of a car. The fields for these features are stacked with the top late model drivers in the country along with some of the best regional racers from the Ohio West Virginia and surrounding areas. The races were sure to have some of the best action and boy they didn't disappoint.

Duel #1 would see Josh Richards take off and get the early lead but as they came to the line to start lap 5 Bloomquist was on his back bumper and was making a charge for the top spot and after coming out of turn 2 he would have the lead and would take off and never look back. The Voodoo Child would win the first Duel in dominating fashion and lock himself into the feature on Saturday and would secure a spot in the top 3 rows for that feature with the way the format would be set up for this weekend. The field would see that after missing several months of racing due to a motorcycle accident in February that Bloomquist from Planet Zero could possibly be back to 100% and if he is in fact back then that spells trouble with a capital T for the rest of the remaining season and even bigger trouble for next season.

Duel #2 would hit the track next and would see an incredible battle take place behind the leader as Superman and Weiss would battle for 2nd. Marlar would enjoy a pretty comfortable lead while Davenport and Weiss sorted out who would take the 2nd spot which after a battle that would last for just 5 laps Davenport would muster past Weiss in 1 corner and would come out of the 4th turn with the lead all while Marlar would watch and Davenport and Weiss would both blow by him heading into turn 1. Davenport would hit lap traffic about the halfway point and it would look as if Weiss would get by him but the cagey veteran would use the lap traffic to his advantage and seal the deal but the battle behind him would heat up pretty heavily and would Chase Junghans take the 2nd spot from Weiss and start to close in on Davenport. Junghas would close the gap and make things very interesting with 3 to go but Superman wouldn't be denied and would go onto win the 2nd Duel and along with Bloomquist lock himself into the feature for Saturday as well.
