It's poor roster management, no matter how you shake. McMahon and his staff lost a lot and didn't do anything to develop the kids that were waiting in the wings. There's no development whatsoever.

Their JV program like many was heavily impacted by the 8 quarter rule, but they still have an absolutely miserable JV program run by a bunch of amateurs. It's been that way for the past two seasons, at least. They are not doing enough to develop the athletes they have in that program.

If Neal were to be named Coach the first requirement should be that he move into the community and be invested into it not Ninety Six. He has never lived in any community he has coached in as a Head Coach that I am aware of outside of Ninety Six. Not McCormick, nor Aiken!! Imagine Frank Hill, Pinky Babb, or Shell Dula not living in the community but driving in each day. Ridiculous!! Small town coaches need to live, breath, and be involved with their families in that community!!

He lived in Myrtle Beach when he coached at North Myrtle Beach.

The town of Ninety Six is not that far from Emerald.

I wouldn't even live in Aiken....seems backwards to me. Especially, since he has a beautiful house in Ninety Six. I would travel back and forth like he did.

Actually, I believe Shell Dula's residence may be zoned 96. I actually don't see a problem with it. I know coaches here in Greenville county that don't live in the exact town of the school that they work at. Ex. Porter doesn't live in the City of Greenville, but out in the burbs near Simpsonville. It's a none issue. Most the area feels connected anyways.

I understand what you are saying and Greenwood actually has a coach on staff right now that drives down from Greenville everyday. But you still miss my point in the key words "SMALL TOWN". Maybe Greenwood is no longer considered a small town, but when I was there 3 weeks ago it still looked like one to me. Again that is the basis of my point, historically small towns require that you need to live in them. Large towns like Greenville, Spartanburg, Columbia, Rock Hill, and Charleston not so much. Can't imagine Coach Varner living outside of Woodruff, or so many other coaches that I grew up with in the field large and small not living close by the school they were coaching. Sometimes it is the difference between support and no support I have seen. Just getting too old I guess. I am out of this conversation! Bye

It's a different time. While Greenwood is small it isn't Mayberry. Woodruff itself is on the verge of becoming a suburb. Greenville's growth is pushing in that direction. So I wouldn't be surprised if the current Woodruff coach didn't live in Woodruff. Could live in one of the many neighborhoods that are on Woodruff Rd in Greenville county, which is a very short drive to Woodruff.

Jimmy Towe didn't live in Calhoun Falls when he was the head coach at CFHS in 2004. He played for a state title against Lamar in 2004. Everybody in that community loved him.
