By the way this has not been about Dan Pippin, this has been about RESPECTING a human being. So glad I am retired, and glad another of my friends has retired from this town. You didn't deserve him. Bet you one day he is in the HOF too!!
I hate to tell you, but you've asked for it. You've been the most egotistical, know it all; disrespectful poster on here. And unless you are the past coach or an alumni, you don't really have a dog in this fight. Thus, you probably could care less about the success of Greenwood. You just want to be right. That's the most difficult person to ever deal with, one that just wants to be right to feed their ego. Never saw any posts from you until the end of Dan's tenure. Now you're like a fly that can't be swatted. I've debated if you were actually Dan before, but he told me he isn't on here. But he does know what's being said here. I personally have never disrespected Dan and think he's a great guy. I just don't agree with his coaching style, and that's okay. I wish him well and still respect him. If you don't care about Greenwood, why keep barging into threads about Greenwood? Just leave it be. Talk about a school you do care about.

I feel like Greenwood football will be cursed as long as they let Tom-Tom hang around their program.

Did Pippin actually let him coach or was he just a do-boy for that entire staff?

Damefan, I hope Pippin gets selected in the Hall of Fame. KUDOS to him! Like a said before, he is a nice respected man off the field but he just can't coach against teams like Dorman, Gaffney, Northwestern, previous Greenwood teams and etc. In order to win a state title you have to beat those types of teams and not lose against bottom feeders.

But I was stating the facts about the region, teams, coaching and titles.

Past Coach Yes! Egotistical, isn't every coach!! Care about Greenwood I have too many family members that live there, currently teach there, have graduated from GHS, and will graduate in the future there as they are my grandchildren. So yes in a indirect way I do have a horse in the race. If you continue to disrespect my coaching friends I will continue to be a nasty mosquito who keeps poking like a plague! You have made this into a game for me the way you keep telling me what you know and will do and not do. It is funny to me to see when it never comes to fruition. I love your arrogance and cockiness!! If you go read all my posts there are several schools that I like. That is the joy of being retired, I can like who I choose now with no loyalty to any one particular school. Have a great day, I certainly am!! :-)

I've been here a very long time and haven't disrespected any coach. Definitely not egotistical as I would give most people the shirt from my back, and have. Anyone that knows me would tell you that. But you've displayed and continue to display that type. And even though I haven't disrespected a coach, what are you going to do about it if I did? Nothing. I was here when you showed up and will be here when you're finally gone.

Here's the point about Dan Pippin as the Greenwood coach. All the State, region titles, and big wins stopped when he got hired. His biggest win was against TL Hanna in a second round playoff game. It was a big win but still. You can beat a team that hadn't lost in almost 2 years but you can't even sniff a region title. That's a problem. he had six years at Greenwood and couldn't win one region title. Not one. Greenwood High is a football school and cannot afford to be in mediocrity for 6 years with no hardware. We don't have to win state titles every year because we haven't. But we do have to have that region on lock. And get out of the first round of the playoffs consistently. if Dan could have won at least two or three region titles during his tenure all this negativity probably wouldn't be here. At the end of the day he was the head coach and it was his and his responsibility alone to keep the program up to standard and he failed to do so. It's nothing personal against Dan but he had to get up out of here. Best wishes to coach pippen. Very happy that we have Coach Liner now.

I dont know Pippen, and haven't watched Greenwood enough over the last few years to make a determination as to whether he was the sole problem, or not. Regardless the next coach will benefit by default from day one just because of reclassification.

I'm going to respectfully disagree. The entire program has to be brought back. The confidence, swagger, toughness, and hard nosed mentality all has to be brought back. The roster sizes need to be improved. The atmosphere around the program needs to be improved. These are all the things that were lost when Cathcart left.

Region wise it's going to be tougher. Greenville, Greer, Eastside are not bad teams. Laurens will most likely take a step back. Regardless trying to win region isn't going to be a Cakewalk just because we're in 4a. Assuming we make the playoffs, there's no Dorman, Brynes, or Gaffney but there's still South Pointe, Myrtle Beach, some of these Columbia area Schools. May River is another one. I'm probably leaving a bunch of teams out because I don't know anything about them. I don't understand why everybody thinks if it's not 5A, then it's automatically a walk in the park. There are still good teams in 4A. Liner has his work cut out for him. We (Greenwood) have a lot of work to do. They already have them in the weight room so that's a really good start.

As weird and as backwards as this may sound. This year's schedule is even tougher. The non region schedule has been improved on purpose. There are 2 5A powerhouses along with another 5A that has won the big one in the recent past added, and a pretty good team from Georgia whom only had 1 loss last season to the eventual champion. I might say that this region might be tougher than region 1 5A was this past season. I agree, it won't be a cakewalk; but that's good. Schedule should be released publicly soon.
