Strom Thurmond Jamboree

Batesburg 13
Saluda 7

Saluda is much smaller than have been the last few years. Coach Young will figure out who goes where when it counts. Tigers have some tough runningbacks led by Brunson.
BL is much improved over last season. Panthers ran a wing t offense and mixed in some passing. Oline had size. Not saying they will win them all but they will be more competitive this season. These two will see each other in region play later. Not sure how it will come out.

ST 13
Brookland Cayce 7

Brookland Cayce's oline is huge. Look it up on Maxpreps! 6'5, 6'4, 6'4, 6'3, 6'3 with plenty of weight attached. Their fullbacks are big too. They drove right down field behind that big oline to open game to score 1st. QB is smaller and did a great job of hiding behind the guys upfront to get to edges. RB ran hard as well. Went to a scrum like plan in 2nd qtr with tight splits and hurrying to the line out of the huddle (after milking clock  ). They were out of sinc on it and had 10-15 penalties for false starting, illegal motion, holding, unsportsman like conduct, etc. It was crazy but they kept the Rebel offense off the field for most of the 2qtr even though it took 3 hours of real time for 6-7 minutes of game time! The Bearcats will be a problem for a lot of teams this year but also have brutal schedule with Byrnes, Northwestern and others. BC had a 95 yd kick return negated for block in the back. They weren't happy. I thought it was a great call.

Strom Thurmond has weapons all over the field and moved the ball balanced and with ease. It's been a while since the Rebels had so many playmakers at each position and this size. Starting RB Blocker did not play but will be back this week for Laney. No drop off with the other two rb's (Barnes and Lee). Wide outs are loaded led by Staley (tennessee commit), 6'4 Tolen , 6'4 Simpkins, etc. Oline has a lot of size and experience now with Yonce, Hammett, Kelley, Mims (6'5 1/2, 300lbs jr), Cockrell, Stevens, etc. QB Edmond 6'2 is a dual threat. Kicker Nordeen is money on PAT's and has touchback strength on kick offs. High snap bad timing on the missed pat. just saying.
Defense returned 9 starters from last season, led by potential Shrine Bowl LB JuJu Stevens (6'2 225lbs). They are physical, fast and disciplined. Once you see the BC oline, you will appreciate the job they did Friday.
All that to say there are many things to clean up but this could be a very exciting year for the Rebels.
