Ashley Ridge 13 Sumter 56

Work and some other commitments had me away for most of the second half of the season. First game I’ve been to since Socastee. I did listen to the Carolina Forest game…that was a bad loss. We should have won that game by two TDs.
As for last night…I expected a shootout as I did not think that Ashley Ridge would stop us from running the ball and the Summerville game had me questioning our pass defense.
Not sure if AR relied on our Summerville game, their Summerville game, if they thought they just had no chance of winning, or just wanted to test our secondary early. They could’ve, would’ve, and should’ve been shut out if it wasn’t for a Sumter penalty on fourth down, and Sumter not playing defense on the last play of the game.
Congrats to Ashley Ridge on a great season. QB is just a sophomore. Coach Tate will keep that program playing at a high level. They are in good hands.
From a defensive standpoint, I thought Sumter played with something to prove. DE Anthony Addison couldn’t be blocked. Sophomore DB Bryce Allen did a great job on #6 Salley, including a pick six. The defense had 5 interceptions. Clearly their best game of the year.
Sumter was a FG and a TD away from a 9-1 record this season This is a good team and the win last night probably opened some eyes. But for Sumter, the name of the game is consistency. The Sumter team that showed up last night is one that could get to a state final. The question is whether they can carry over that performance to Stratford next week.
