Agreed. The school district and admin may not value football and athletics as a whole the way members of this board do, the coaches and players certainly do.

Greenville and Mann have mastered the recruiting game in GC. That is the difference. Outside of the teams mentioned GC football is abysmal

They put out the two Spartanburg schools left in 4 and 5A. I disagree that it is abysmal as you say. Hillcrest has also been consistently good lately and they did put Byrnes out in Byrnes. Greenville is the most populated county in the state and has one huge school district. This creates challenges that other districts don't have to overcome. And at the 4 and 5A levels it seems all of the better schools know how to attract the better athletes. Recruit as you call it. I sure wish my alma mater could learn how to do this. At least in it's own county. It takes that or some really good coaching. Sometimes it takes both of those.

This has been a good year for Greenville County top teams. Spartanburg has the edge in longevity and depth, let’s see how GC fairs when the new multiplier system is implemented next year. How many will be 5A? High school football is more fun when there are more good teams.

It's definitely newer than Spartanburg success because Greenville isn't broken up into smaller districts that focus solely on football. Some of the schools are taking the responsibility of being successful on their own shoulders. And with all of the folks in and moving to Greenville county there is plenty of talent to choose from. Southside Christian, St Joseph's, and Christ Church are also good, but they aren't apart of the district and play in the lower clarifications.

Eagle, I don’t disagree. Spartanburg’s single high school districts are a distinct advantage. Population growth and a city being desirable to live in is a Greenville advantage. The pendulum seems to have swung Greenville’s way right now.

I'm not saying it will stay that way. But there is lots of talent to choose from. The schools that decide that they want to take it serious can be successful. My school can't beat any of them and it's supposed to be a football traditional powerhouse. Greenville has watershedded Greenwood two years in a row.

I agree with some of the posters that pointed out Greenville and the surrounding area has been growing for years now. it would be interesting to know how many athletes in all sports were actually born and raised in that area vs. families that have moved there for jobs over the last 5 to 10 years that have kids playing sports.

Would be hard to gather that information, but there was lots of talent already here.
