At this point can the SCHSL just go ahead and say

Post by coachinggrapevine »

"fine go ahead and recruit as long as they follow the eligibility rules"

I mean schools have always recruited. It's been behind the scenes for most of our state's history, but now it's out in the open and evident. I know of at least 3 schools around me (Upper Grand Strand) that openly recruit kids. It's well known what they do.

Does the SCHSL do anything? Absolutely they do. They hammer smaller schools who break the rules as an example to the 4A/5A schools who don't care because they know they provide a majority of the funds to the SCHSL and therefore won't do anything to them.

So make it fair. Allow all schools to recruit instead of the current system of looking the other way for the money makers and dropping the hammer on the smaller schools who already don't have enough resources as it is.

Do tell! Which county school has Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach or Carolina Forest poached from this time? Or was it Waccamaw again?

Hate to say it but I think you're absolutely correct. If you want to win that is. My school has a rich tradition in winning but we've fallen to the wayside because we just can't compete with schools that recruit. That's hard for me to say but it is what it is. Our coach wants to win the old fashioned way with homegrown talent. I totally admire and respect him for not bending his philosophy just because other schools are doing it. However, the reality is if you want to win now you have to recruit. Sad but true.
