Anybody know if my Panthers have picked up a game to replace the one we had against Thornwell, who dropped football. Glad we are not playing that joke of a game. However, I am afraid we may have only 9 game reg season now. Another negative result of the drop to Class A in football. Not happy about it in the least. Hope we can pick up a decent game. It would be a shame to miss gate money and concessions for a game. I believe the gate is already going to be hurt by weak region games, plus weak playoff opponents.. It's not like it was in the old days when Ware Shoals, McCormick, CF had some good football years.

So Atown has it's first game in 4 weeks. Open date, another off week due to a vacancy in schedule, we only have 9 games due to Thornwell dropping football {thankfully}, then the storm. First game is at Calhoun Falls  where our starters only play maybe a quarter and a little more. There is more of this coming in this weak of the weakest region. It didn't have to be this way. We were placed in 2A before school year. Some people in administration begged and pleaded, apparently, petitioned for this drop to 1A. Did they think this through properly? Is it worth a few more wins [possibly] in other sports to basically turn the flagship program football season into a string of games where your core starters, probably mostly juniors and seniors, don't even get to hardly play most of the games? It is really disheartening to see this, for me, as a very long time supporter and almost always in attendance at every game. This season has a very different vibe and not a good one. There are games that I will not attend due to the shear mismatches, unwatchable so called games. Is there a decent game down the line late in playoffs, IDK. i hope so. I feel bad mostly for the players and coaches, they didn't ask for this. I think a certain school official or two is responsible for this. I think they made a very bad choice, football is about competition and big game atmosphere, I don't see anything in sight. I sure hope the other sports benefit at somewhat because they have dampened the football season for sure. It is sad.

Well said. 2A playoffs would be awesome with Abbeville in the mix. Abbeville v Blackville for the 1A state title may be fun though.

Ditto this week vs Whitmire....JVs playing in 2nd quarter, running clock, 52-0 at half. This is ridiculous. This is not what Atown football is about. To those responsible, shame on you.

Yeah, I listened to the game. That was hard to even listen to. 8 minute quarters with a running clock, just call the game off. And it's not Whitmire's fault, they have who they have. I think the Abbeville radio said Whitmire dressed 18 kids last night. Those 2 teams shouldn't be in the same classification

It might be the same next week for Abbeville, Whitmire beat Dixie pretty good. At this point, Abbeville's starters will play about 4 quarters combined in region games.

Exactly. I feel bad for the players and coaches, I'm confident they didn't ask for this. It will be this way for most of the rest of the season, including playoffs.

We all know Abbeville walks the dog on all teams in 1A. They could beat most teams in the state, regardless of size.
