Senior Citizen free passes

Post by SF Band dad »

From talking to other fans around the state, I know that some districts offer free passes to senior citizens that live within the district. They don't seem to publicize them very well. I only found out last year that Florence SD1 offers a 62+ pass. I have shared this information with several senior citizens I sit near, and over half of them had no idea these passes were available.

I encourage you to check with your district to see if something is available. If not, maybe go to a school board meeting and ask them why not.

From the Florence SD1 website:
  • 62+ passes will be honored. Those eligible for a 62+ pass must present their ID at the F1S District Office to obtain their pass. Pass holders may show your 62+ pass at the gate for free entry.
  • The PASS 62 allows senior citizens, 62 years of age and over, as well as totally disabled persons, to attend district athletic, choral, and drama events (except the Football Jamboree, post-season play, and fundraisers) free of charge. It also provides the cardholder the opportunity to eat lunch at the elementary school in cardholder’s attendance zone for the current adult lunch price. The PASS 62 is non-transferable, and does not expire.
  • Board Policy KJD: Relations with Senior Citizens
All citizens of the district who are totally disabled or 62 years of age or older will be admitted without charge to all events sponsored by the school district provided they present proof of age. Qualified citizens may obtain a Pass 62 card by submitting evidence of eligibility in person to the Office of Public Information. Card does not expire.
  • Limitations: Card does not apply to cost-prohibitive events such as fundraisers, tournaments, and pre- or post-season play. Card must be presented before receiving benefits. Any misuse of the card will bring forfeit of its privileges.
  • Please be advised that the Pass 62 card admits only one.

Spartanburg County has them (had mine for a while now) and Greer, Wade Hampton and Greenville High honored them in previous years. I'm not sure about Riverside or Eastside.

Cherokee County (those dang Injuns) wouldn't honor them.

I'm thinking about entering the transfer portal!

It’s not $7 everywhere. I’ve seen as much as $10 for a game. Not much to most people, but it could be to a retired person.

I wish more districts had something like this. I like the lunch at elementary school thing. I’ve always thought the idea of seniors coming into elementary schools is a great idea. We use to do a Reading with Grands program when I was teaching where seniors would come in to read to and with students. It was great, especially for the kids that didn’t have grandparents.

Every game I've gone to this year was $8, plus the online ticketing fee, which makes it almost $10. I have a friend who is living on a low, fixed income. We got him a 62+ pass and he loves going to the SF home games with me.

I went to 1 game this year, paid $8 and left at halftime. I have no reason to sit at games anymore at this point in my life.

All of our games are on the radio and 2 have been on tv this year. It’s the same reason I don’t get season tickets at Carolina anymore, and I had club level tickets. Sitting at a stadium has nothing to offer me.
